I noticed our cat has been drinking anti-freeze off the garage floor and
seems to like it.  I can't imagine this is healthy, but is there something
you can give it to clean it out of their system?
mooninpappa - 24 Feb 2004 11:54 GMT
take him to the vets NOW!
Its a bad poison for cats,
and can KILL! them quickly!

Antifreeze is toxic!  It is poisonous to cats!!  If you really have
witnessed this (that is, if the cat was actually drinking and not just
investigating), it's remarkable that your cat is still alive.  Call an
emergency veterinary service.  If one is not available, call one of the
poison control hot lines for animals:
Animal Poison Hotline: 1-888-232-8870 (there is a per-incident fee)
National Animal Poison Control: 1-888-426-4435 (free, AFAIK)
ASPCA poison control hotline:  (888) 4ANI-HELP or (888) 426-4435 [Note:  the
source I read claims this is the only dedicated animal poison control
hotline manned by veterinarians, not telephone operators - but I don't have
any personal knowledge]

IIRC, BigDaddy is a troll.  He's the one who posted about his gf's cat and
then posted about all the useless replies (in a thread entitled "Useless
Replies," no less).  If he's not a troll, he's definitely not the brightest
(or most refined) brick on the block.

Yes, I remembered that thread and knew that this could be a troll,
especially with a message about a cat licking antifreeze.  I just didn't
want to take any risks, *in case* this could be legitimate -- in which case,
there would be no time to waste before taking action.

Thanks,

I ignored him too, thinking yeah sure, it's a well known and publicized fact
that antifreeze is toxic to both cats and dogs. God alone knows why like it!
But since I was a KID I've heard it and seen posters, and such.
Anyway, Mary, I was so GLAD you did not ignore it! Those numbers you gave
are invaluable :)
You're just a fount of kitty info :)
Thank you so much for posting them. I put two in my cell phone directory!

Thanks again!

Ah, yes; thank you.  I knew the user name was familiar, but couldn't
remember in what context.

That hotline (1-888-426-4435) is NOT free.  They will charge $45 to your
credit card.  If you call 1-900-680-0000, you get the same hotline but
the $45 is charged to your phone.

Thanks.  I have changed the notes in my files to reflect this.  Are you
given an option on the 4435 number to accept or reject, or is the fee added
as soon as contact is made?  I think this number was free at one time, but
obviously not now.

You cannot be billed for dialing a (888) number.  You and the party you
are calling can arrange for payment if you agree to pay (by providing a
credit card, bank account information, or promising to send money)

With a (900) number you are billed effectively as soon as you call,
although IIRC there is a mandatory billing-announcement period, during
which the (900) number is legally obligated to inform you of the
charges, and permit you to disconnect without charges.

Thanks!  That makes sense, but I wanted to be sure.  This is a service that
was free at one time, so I have amended my files.

Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is extremly toxic to cats --  causes acute
renal failure if not treated immediately.

The minimum lethal dose for cats is only 1.5 ml/kg  (3/4 cc/lb) - Only about
1 tablespoon of antfreeze diluted 50:50 with water in radiator fluid can
cause acute oliguric renal failure in an average-sized cat.

Don't waste time making phone calls or looking for information - get your
cat to an emergency vet NOW --even if your cat shows no symptoms.

Hey, weren´t you the one who posted about your girlfriend´s cat not
drinking, pooping, eating for a week and vomiting on top of it? I told
you it might be acute renal failure because of antifreeze or vitamin D
poisoning. Now you see your cat drinking antifreeze knowing it´s
highly toxic and let it happen? You must be a troll.

Eq,

I think everyone can do their own research if they want to find out if he's
a troll or not, but very kind of you to do as zuzu22 did to me and inform
everyone of messages we've already seen. Everyone in here is mature enough
to make up their own minds about BigDaddy and didn't need to see previous
post.  By the way, I haven't seen zuzu22 posting much lately in here, but
she sure was quick to do a complete search on me way back to May of last
year and enlighten everyone of my personal life. Are you and zuzu related by
chance?

BigDaddy, if you're reading this, be aware that all of your post are
archived to Google.com newsgroups and all it takes is one a.shole to do a
search on your name and spread personal posts all over the net. There are a
few people who enjoy this sort of thing because they are perfect (in their
eyes)

There were many who good advice to you and some who bashed you (as they tend
to do here unless you are in their clique). Just listen to the advice of
those who are genuinely concerned and ignore the rest.

Good luck.

Hailey,

Mary was one of many who was in the clique of mostly women will know
immediately who I am ( I don't know if she wants a prize or what lol)
because I made it quite obvious bringing zuzu22's name up, and mentioning
that she was the "person" who decided it was her duty to clue everyone in
here with her post "The Truth About Christina". Then she basically had more
important things to do and I haven't heard from her since. Lovely woman that
zuzu, I mean "Megan". I figured out how to do a fake email addy and change
my name, most people put a fake email addy to avoid spam. I just did it for
kicks. I plan on changing it every now and then, especially in this
newsgroup where so many "dislike me", but only if I need help with my
kitties.  Are you using Outlook Express? If you are I'll tell you how to do
it. It's actually very simple. You can change it as often as you like.

Most of us use munged (fake) addresses to avoid spam, but we do *not* change
our usernames because we are not trying to hide from the newsgroup.  You
seem to post to this group only when you want to complain about someone, and
now you are also doing it under phony names (not just your addy).  This does
not help anyone with their cats!

If I wanted to "hide" I would not have made the post so obvious that it was
me. I'm sorry if I feel the need to defend myself here and that I only post
when I want to complain, but I don't particularly care when certain people
(I'll leave names out of it since there are too many in the clique) feel a
need to constantly criticize and poke fun at me with their high fives and
low fives, it's so childish.  When I first joined here I stated that I had
two new kittens and needed plenty of advice, so that's why I joined this
group originally, to learn. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge that
many of the cat owners in here do. Anyway, nevermind I don't want to explain
anything else, just gives others entertainment and more reason to play
around with me. They enjoy making fun of people in here that they don't like
or agree with. I had sat back and watched three days worth of posts and all
I saw was a bunch of people bickering back and forth, laughing like it was
so funny to put others down, cliques, getting off on it. If I need any help
or advice with my kitties I think instead of asking in here, I'm just going
to search on the internet or call the vet.

To all the kind people in here with a heart, have a great day and God Bless.

Oh, Christina, do you really need to pursue this?

You had the power to avoid all this nastiness. OP might have seemed "abrupt"
in their response to your original post. But initially it wasn't a personal
attack it was passionate objection to glue traps. You chose to make it
personal. This is usenet, if you don't have a thick skin you shouldn't play.

At this point it appears that you either enjoy the attention or have nothing
better to do with your time and find this kind of thing entertaining.

Have you ever considered that people like you might be what drives OP to be
"abrupt"?

Has nothing whatsoever to do w/a "clique".  Has everything to do w/ your
general posting manner - how you come across.

I am using Outlook Express.  Your news reader may be slightly different.
However, in OE, select Tools>Accounts.  A screen will open that shows all of
your news accounts and the address(es) associated with them.  Select
Properties from the buttons on the right.  Under e-mail address: edit for
your new "munged" name.  For example, you will see that mine is currently
carstan10@yahoo.comTAKE-OUT-THE-LITTER.  This simply means that the address
is valid except that you must delete "take-out-the-litter" to use it.  It is
important for your phony information to appear to the right of the @ part of
the address.  You should also insert this same information in the
preferences you set when you established your news account.  Also, I did
change my yahoo account a few months ago because the original one became
clogged with spam (and I had not munged that address).

There are others on this group who are more expert with a variety of news
servers.  Perhaps one of them will respond with additional information.

Hailey's also using OE.

[Hailey - No I'm not a mind reader! ;-)  If you right-click on a person's
post, then go down to "Properties" at the bottom of the resultant drop-down
menu.  Then click on the "Details" tab of the window that pops up, & look
sort of near the middle of all of the info there.  You'll see that on your
(or mine, or Mary L's, for instance) that it says "Newsreader: Microsoft
Outlook Express".]

I would suggest that you use an actual news reader instead of Outlook
or Outlook Express. Those are e-mail programs that just happen to be
able to do news reading. A true reader will be easier to use, once you
get used to it. It will also have much more flexibility, should you
ever want it.

Forte Inc. makes a product called Agent. There is a no-cost version
called Free Agent. It is relatively easy to learn, but fairly good. It
does force you to look at some advertising though, to pay the costs of
the product.

The true readers will allow you to put whatever you want in your
posted address. There are "codes" in the header that identify you to
your news provider so you can be identified by your provider should
that become necessary.

For an example of that, see my address in the header. You are
completely correct in not posting your address. The amount of SPAM
that is sent out is too large to measure. I have abandoned some of my
e-mail addresses because of SPAM. It is too time consuming to look at
dozens of those crap ads a day. Some people have hundreds a day.

Lots of people prefer programs other than OE.  However... I am nowhere
*near* a techie sort of person, & I learned about e-mail first w/ Juno (a
super-simple freebie version), and then w/ OE, re: e-mail & also reading
ngs.  Upon recommendations by other people, I've looked into Free & Forte
Agent & some other newsreaders in the past, & decided to stick w/ OE.  It
boils down to being familiar w/ OE (hey, it's enough of a technological
learning curve for me when they come out w/ a new version of OE!), & not
wanting or feeling the need to rock the/my boat; Outlook Express just
doesn't bother me - I don't feel the need to change to something else.

You and Hailey are using the exact same version of the same
newsreader, so your directions are perfect.

Thanks. Well, one part of my message was less than perfect.  I left
one digit (used "10" instead of "101") out of my address, so it won't work
if someone tried to follow directions to send mail to me.  I actually have
it set as carstan101@yahoo.comTAKE-OUT-THE-LITTER.

You know, there's something I've been wondering about. Did it ever
occur to you that your sudden "layoff" from your job after you
"passed out at [your] desk" at work probably had more to do with your
substance abuse problems than with some mysterious medical malady
that somehow caused you to, er, faint, yeah, faint, that's it...while
*sitting down*?

Pathetic lush. Go spend time with your children. Eat a breath mint
first so they don't choke on your fumes.

Buh bye,

It's very bad - it can cause kidney damage & even death.

Animals are attracted to it because it has a sweet taste.
