I hope everyone will pardon me for posting here about my dog, but I was
hoping you all could send good thoughts Bubbas' way (he is an honorary
cat in my house). He was just diagnosed with advanced stage cancer,
found all over his lungs and a large mass on his heart, plus a smaller
nodule on his spleen. The prognosis is bad, a few months at the most is
what his vets are thinking. He just got sick on Wednesday, I took him in
Thursday morning. Obviously it's been there for a long time but as
recently as Tuesday he was running around playing keep away with his
dolly (stuffed rabbit) as my boyfriend and I chased him around. I'm not
taking this well, he's not a young dog but I was counting on a few more
years with my guy.

Oh, I'm sorry. ;-(   I take it that it's too advanced/widely spread to
consider chemotherapy?

He's been started on a drug call Piroxicam, which is a non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory that was found to have a chemo-like effect on some
kinds of tumors. They don't know why. We get a biopsy report on Monday
so my vet and I will be able to go over our options more. It's not
looking good - it's rather advanced. Thanks, Cathy.

I didn't get your original post (damn news server!) but I'm hoping for the
best for him, too!  Kitty sends headbutts his way (she doesn't really like
dogs, but she tolerates them well and is feeling terribly sad over his
condition--OK, she didn't say that, and she's actually curled up sleeping,
but I'm sure she's dreaming good thoughts!).

Thanks Mary. Hope you and yours are doing okay. :)

I'm terribly sorry, Karen.  I know it's never long enough no matter how long we
get to keep them.  I hope the time you have left is longer than you think and
that it will be a wonderful time for all of you.  It's very sad.

Thank you Candace. Your fellow vegetarian just bought some weird-a.s
beaver wet food because many fussy cats and dogs have seemed to like it.
Bubbas hasn't been eating, though he chowed down on one of those Natural
Balance food rolls they have. It smells kind of like salami or
something... :)

Huh?  Really?  I just googled this because I thought you were kidding.  Urgh.
I guess not.  Of course, I hope it works for Bubba's sake but I guess this is
an example of one of those ingredients that humans sort of find
repugnant...like the reason they don't make mouse cat food...apparently cats
would definitely go for it but it would disgust the humans too much to buy it.
Very interesting, though.

Is there an appetite stimulant like cyproheptadine for cats that works on dogs?

Purring for your doggie and you.  Don't let him suffer too long.
Sometimes the hardest thing is the kindest after all.

I'm sorry to hear the sad new about Bubba. It's never easy to hear such news
about our friend(s) no matter how long they've been with us.  My best wishes
for you both.

Karen,

I'm so sorry...  Gustav, Rori and I are sending positive thoughts as well.

So sorry to hear about Bubba, Karen. My sister has a golden named Bubba, and
he's a real charmer- Funny affectionate dog. Hope the Piroxicam helps, and
you can have much good time together.

Oh Karen.  :(  Many purrs for Bubbas and you. These things come up out of
the blue and slap you in the face sometimes. I'm so sorry and I hope the
vets can keep him comfortable or that maybe a miracle will happen. Hang in
there. :(

Karen, so sorry to hear about your doggy. There´s a very good site
called "Caring for Pets with Cancer" and you might find very helpful
information there. Wish you & Bubba the best.
