LOL, well, that's a breed that loves to eat! As with any overweight cat, you
need to increase the amount of exercise the cat is getting, and reduce the
amount of food.

Yes, they do love to eat!!  I have a British Shorthair (no real proof that
she is, she sure looks like one though), and when I started fostering
kittens, she would be dying to get in the room with them.  I thought she was
interested in checking out the kittens, so once they were old enough, I let
her in the room.  She could care less about the kittens, it was the kitten
food she wanted!  When she did sneak in, she headed straight for the food
and chowed like she's never been fed before.
Anyway, my advice is the same.  Get your kitty to play, and feed a good less
active formula cat food.  Try to get your cat interested in a laser pointer,
something to get him/her moving!

Here's some pics of my tubby British Shorthair www.snittens.com/newcat.html
.  If you have any pics of yours, post a link!  I'd love to see them!

Newcat looks almost exactly like Shamrock.   :)  Just add a half of a
mustache and there he is.  lol

Trapped like rats. In a chia-pet.

I think she looks sleek and lovely.

Cute kitty. Doesn't have the Brit face (see
http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/british.html) but I can see a little
resemblance in the body. Maybe the tendency to tubbiness?

Feed him less and play with him more.

Here's a link that will tell you the caloric content of various foods. There
is a link at the bottom of the page for dry food. See if you can find what
you are feeding on the list and compute to see how much your cat is getting.
That way if you change to a "diet" food you can check the chart to make sure
you are really feeding fewer calories. Some "diet" or "lite" food packages
recommend feeding a larger quantity than their regular counterparts and end
up feeding the same number of calories.

As others have said the only way to deal with this is to feed less and see
if you can get kitty to exercise more - and stick to it.
