Innoculations and URIs

Here's something I've been puzzling over for a time.

When the parents of our two cats had a URI about a year and a half ago,
after we gave them their innoculation series, it...well, it just  went
away. Granted, though, that they were at this point five or six months of
age.

Now here's what's up - something we heard from our vet back in November
was that this is generally not a good idea, especially with weeks-old
kittens, for fear of an adverse reaction - she didn't infer as to what
that could be though.

At any rate, largely out of curiousity, if one innoculates a cat amidst a
URI, what risks are they taking with the cat?

My guess would be that since the cat's immune system is already
compromised by the URI, injecting it with substances that are
intended to further tax the immune system could make the existing
illness worse. That's why you're not supposed to get flu shots when
you're sick, for example.

It clearly states on the vaccine label to be given to healthy animals only.

Increased risks of adverse reactions to one or more adjuvants or other
components of the vaccine due to a partially debilitated physical condition
and an already stressed immune system.

Under certain circumstances, I might suggest conjunctival vaccination with
an FHV-1 intranasal  vaccine for a cat with a URI if keratitis was also an
issue.
