Hi,
Tonight; the 'realization struck'......global warming is on:(
Living on the Gold Coast of Australia, in a warm sub-tropical climate was
always great; however, as of lately, we live in the tropics.
The great part of it is...geckos! the lovely, friendly color-changing little
lizard that climbs walls vertically with the help of suckers on it's feet.
Balinese truly worship Geckos (I remember seeing hundreds of them on a
ceiling of a restaurant in Legian). I also give them a truly regal
treatment; not only a good omen; they also eat spiders en mass!

Tonight, the first gecko actually ventured inside of my house; Xena was
about to kill it when I noticed what was going on while I was watching a
movie. Never seen a good size gecko inside my house as yet and Xena was
about to get it!
It wasn't easy to catch the wriggling, fighting 15.5 LB lean mean machine
that she is. I had to try twice. Finally locked her in the guest toilet
downstairs, not understanding what was a difference between catching a giant
cockroach and a gecko;  then, getting hold of a hiding gecko, getting it
into my palm without any physical damage, holding it while I was fumbling
for keys; finally releasing gecko onto my front porch outside. Uuuugh! Done!
it run off., stressed, but unharmed.
Next thing ; releasing equally stressed Xena from the toilet. She doesn't
quite understand what has she done to deserve it all.
Any experiences protecting geckos from cats? I would like to hear from you,
as I may have to do it again.
Regards,
Andr0:)

Glad he got away unscathed.  I live in Arizona, US, so we have lizards (and
geckos, I don't really know which are which) that occasionally get inside.  We
have gotten most (but sadly, not all) away from the cats before they have
mortally wounded them.  I hate when they get inside because I know the outcome
may not be good.  My late cat, Emily (I've mentioned this before on this ng, I
think, so sorry if it's a repeat), had one once.  We knew this because we heard
her making odd yowling sounds and went to look.  She would get it in her mouth,
yowl proudly, it would drop out, she would get it again, yowl again, drop it
again and on and on.  We got it away from her and released it.  It appeared
unharmed but I wondered if it dropped dead of fright soon thereafter after such
a trauma.

The lizards hang around our back door in the summer at night if the outside
light is on so we try to keep it off as much as possible and look before
opening the door to go in and banging on the door when we go out to get them to
move away from the door.  Haven't seen one inside for a couple of years now.

Simple- geckos are the ones who try to sell you car insurance. ;-)
