Hello everyone, just wanted to update all thoose who were following
the thread about my kitty Abby AKA The Lazarus cat LOL.
I am thrilled to report that my new vet phoned today, she received all
blood work back on Abby, and everything is NORMAL!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOO!
She is our little miracle cat! She is going for an ultrasound in two
weeks just to check her kidneys again, last vet said her kidneys were
abnormal. Anyway the new vet gave me the go ahead to tell the kids
that our Abby is fine and at this point there is no reason to believe
otherwise. We will cherish every day we have with our Abby girl. Just
wanted to update. Thank you all for your support. We are still
undecided about how we will deal with our original vet, but right now
we are just feeling grateful!

That's amazing. I'm really beginning to wonder about that other vet. Moreso
than even before!! I'm so glad Abby is doing better. You tell your kids that
Somebody meant that Abby should NOT go away and gave her back to you.

So happy to hear about Abby. I'm just curious, did the other vet ever call
to see how she's doing?

Great news. Thanks for the update. How's your newly adopted cat doing? I
thought you mentioned that you had adopted one before you got Abby back.

Man, do you realize how many of us would love to be in your
shoes, even though it has been traumatic? I mean with regard
to cats we have lost to illness. Give that girl a scritch for me.

I have mixed feelings about this. He shucked off responsibility, but made
a decision that saved the cat's life at the eleventh hour.
He should have called you, plain and simple, and put his license at severe
risk for not doing so.
So as such, here's my suggestion, for whatever it's worth.
He's willing to pay the vet bills. Milk that for all it's worth. =^^=
Merciful, in that you have every right to report him appropriately and sue
for malpractice (IANAL), but enough of something to remind him to take
extra care next time something like this comes up.
Give Abby a nuzzle for my wife and I.

At the very least, please report his behaviour to the competent authorities and
let them decide if it merits any further investigation. Yes, his last minute
decision to spare her saved her life. However, it now appears as if his
original diagnosis may have been overexaggerated. It doesn't appear as if she
was as sick as he said she was. That merits some looking into. Throw in his
miserable follow up; failure to properly contact you and follow up with the
tech who took her home and . . . you end up with a supremely poor performance
by him.

I definately plan on following through with some sort of action. I
just am not sure what yet. I will keep you all posted.

I'm really curious. What exactly was wrong with her? Your original
post just said the first vet claimed she had "liver and kidney
problems". What did the new vet find?

I have no idea, and we may never know. He could'nt find what was
causing the problems, although he ran many tests. The new vet found
nothing thus far. Abby will be going for an ultrsound not next week
but the week after, maybe then we will have some answers.

Is it still the plan to have the first vet pay for these additional tests?

I'm pretty confused now. You said in your original post:
"...after about 5 days at the vets office he told me she was a very
sick
cat and her blood work as well as US revealed kidney and liver
problems."
Well, if the first vet did blood tests, whatever led him to the
conclusion that she had "kidney and liver problems" *should* be on the
results of that blood test, unless it was a complete lie on the part
of the first vet or an egregious lack of competence. I'm not a vet,
but I know for sure that the new vet would want the results of the
earlier work-up in order to assist him in his evaluation of the cat's
condition. He should know what the anomolous test results were. If
the first vet completely lied about the results of the blood work or
just demonstrated that he's incompetent to practice, then his
behaviour is much, much worse than what has previously been described.

Well, the whole episode casts doubt on the first vets diagnosis and skill. I
kind of wonder if he didn't discover a mistake was made in the lab work and
rather than fess up, said the cat was dying then gave it away, not being
able to bring himself to euthanize a healthy cat and then all was discovered
anyway. It sounds "cload and dagger" but it is one explanation.

I would think the new vet would want to see the records of the cat, too. I
recently changed vets for two cats who have problems and had to have
bloodwork records faxed to the new vet from the old vet for Shadow for
comparison purposes, and the records I had about skin testing was good
enough for Shamrock.

I've never known a vet to *not* want to see the previous records. I
have copies of all my cats' records that I take with me whenever they
go to a new vet and have them copy so that they have the cats'
histories. With that said, did AJ say somewhere that the new vet
*didn't* have the records from the old vet?

I might have missed it, but I didn't see any post where Amy said the new
vet saw Abby's old records.

Me either, but I didn't see one where she said that he *didn't*,
which is why I ask.

You have a right to see those test results too. You paid for them. I always
get a copy of lab results whenever my cat has tests done. You can go to the
first vet and ask for a copy of the records for your own files.
