Wanted to ask, as far as Abbys kidney and liver disfunction what
should I be feeding her? She was eating Nutro max salmon, but does'nt
seem interested in it. I gave her a half of a can of fancy feast beef
liver and chicken and she loved it, not sure how good this is for her.
But at least she is eating which is wonderful being that she is so
skinny.I am in the process of finding a new vet, however she needs to
be eating in the meantime obviously. She has been resting alot since
being home, but seems to be very happy, purring like crazy and sleepy
in her old familiar spots (my daughters bed, my bed and my sons
dresser drawer. Our 6 year old sheltie, cody was tickled to see her
again, his tail wagging like crazy, not sure she was as happy.
Thanks for any input.

Fancy feast is not great food, but my personal opinion is that at this point
if she is eating that is the main thing. That's a personal opinion and I
suppose there are some here who would have a fit, but after everything
that's gone on, if she can eat it and not throw it up, your doing well.

I agree.  The most important thing for now is getting your cat to eat.  I
remember with one of my cats who had CRF, it was extremely difficult to get her
to eat, so I let her have whatever food she wanted.

Your vet should be advising you on food.

As far as kidney disfunction, you want a food low in sodium and
phosphorus. Again, consult with your vet.

Have you read Abby's story?

Sorry, I saw kidney disfunction and send out a quick post.

AJ, don't buy the vets act of being so sorry. Dump the bungling idiot
and find a new vet pronto! Malpractise case if there ever was one.

So sorry for the grief you and your family have been through.

Amy,

I would be glad that she is eating at all.  I would see a new vet ASAP, and
follow diet advice accordingly.

Have you considered that perhaps Abby is *not* critically ill? I mean, a vet
that is going to be this weird is not someone whose veterinary opinion I
would trust.

Pet insurance is worth it, IMHO, which you might consider if Abby checks out
relatively healthy by your new vet.  Also, you could ask your animal
shelter/new vet for suggestions on low-cost care options.

Rest yourself and your family from this ordeal, then call your local TV
consumer reporter and see if they'll take any of this on for you.  Every pet
owner in your town that goes into that vet deserves to know.

Best,

Marla
