My small gray cat is nearing 10 years but still leaps from the terrace
railing, 12 feet up, to the roof, about 20 feet off the ground. It scares
the daylights out of me every time. It seems she almost doesn't make it but
her claws catch and sometimes slip a bit before she pulls herself on up. I'm
afraid there'll come a time when she's going to misjudge as she gets older
and there's rocks and sticker bushes below. Will she know when to quit?

I sure as hell would put up something to keep her from doing it. Whatever
you do will be cheaper than the vet bill when she misses.

Yep. Time for some screening of some kind.

Will she know when to quit?: No! So why do you let her out to do
it? She will be better off as an indoor cat -- and you know it.
