Drinking from the toilet

Our cats always have a bowl fresh water available, but Fluffy, who has
recently adopted us, prefers to drink from the toilet bowl. We could
discourage her by closing the cover, but we keep the toilet clean and
don't use any chemicals in the water so we let her do it.

I know dogs do this all the time, but Fluffy is the first cat I have
seen who drinks from the toilet. Anyone else have one?

I've had a few cats who liked to drink from the toilet and two who liked to
splash in the toilet. I've also had a few who have fallen in the toilet and
had varying degrees of success getting themselves out. We keep the lid
closed now.

I have two who do (out of 3). Rowan and Jeffrey.
They don't get ON the toilet - they lean INTO it with their rear feet
still on the ground. If they got all 4 on it on it, I'd keep the lid
down so they wouldn't fall in and hurt themselves.

I also keep the door closed the whole day after cleaning and don't use
tablets or drop-ins. I wasn't going to say that, as I thought it would
be obvious, but BSTS.

Yes. One of mine (of 2 cats) does this despite having a nice clean
drinking fountain in t'other room.

Both of mine do.  I got one of those drinking fountains to discourage it,
but now they just drink from both.

The sad part is having to move one and dealing with the really sad look they
give me when I have to go.

One of two here.

Cats - they look so wise and wonderful until you find them drinking
from the toilet.

One regular toilet drinker, one occasional toilet drinker and one
"just looking, ma'am" toilet ponderer in my house.

Yup, it blows a big hole in their dignity, doesn't it?
