I have a cat that was in a similar situation. It first
started feeding him outside the front door. He
became very friendly. He would just wait for me
outside all the time, so I brought him into the garage.
I had him tested/neutered(the works). I started
letting him inside the house for a little while at a
time and slowly increasing his inside time as he
became more used to it. He still has a bit of wild-
ness in him, but he transitioned very well. I say
give it a try, but slowly because you have other
cats. Make sure they aren't going to become
enemies.

Same here. My Cody is almost 4 years old, lived indoors all of his life,
and was always an only cat.
We moved to a new home last year and a black stray started coming around.
He seemed completely wild at first, but I started feeding him as did some
of my other neighbors. Someone named him Midnight.
Eventually he started following me around and rubbing against my leg, but
for a long time he wouldn't let me pet him. Meanwhile, I was trying to
catch him to take him to the vet and have him neutered. He finally came
into my home a few times and I got him to the vet, had him neutered, got
his shots and gave him a checkup. He was perfectly healthy. The vet thought
he was at least a year old, although he was tiny. He's been living with me
since late July and he's now the sweetest, most affectionate cat ever. He
also nearly doubled in size since I took him in. He always jumps on my lap
and starts purring loudly. He's never scratched or bitten me (although he
sometimes gives me a nip if I ignore him when he wants me to pet him).
There were some problems between the two cats for a while and they still
fight once in a while. Cody also started pooping outside the litterbox,
even though I have two boxes. Midnight always makes a big show of using the
box to make sure I know it was Cody :)

Our problem has always been how to keep them out. We finally gave up
with our latest visitor and let her move in. We had her tested, got her
shots, and would have had her spayed but she already was.
We are really happy that she adopted us, and our other two guys,
although not too happy at first, are getting used to their new "big
sister".
