I wrote earlier about stray FElV+ Big Boy for whom I'm looking for a home.
In the meantime, he is confined to my bathroom or a big dog kennel I
borrowed.  Problem is that he is now meowing almost constantly--I know he
wants to get out but I can't let him because of my own cats...Does anyone
have any suggestions as to how to calm him down & make him a little more
content?

I've never tried it myself, but I've noticed in many posts that posters say
Feliway seems to have a calming effect on cats. Something about a calming
pheromone similar to what the cats rub on walls etc- Again, can't speak from
personal experience, but maybe it will soothe him.

Maybe this seems silly but how about a tiny tv in there too?

radio and or tv are both great ideas! Anything to keep him from feeling
totally alone except for when you can come to visit him!

And the Feliway too. I've had great success with it, try the diffuser. :)

Glad to hear you still have Big Boy around!  I'll second the others'
suggestions of putting a TV or radio in the bathroom for company.  I always
have a radio on for my fosters when they are in the guest room.  I keep it
on NPR (my dad said I'm trying to brainwash the cats, LOL!). I like to
listen when I'm in the room too, and also most of the hosts have calm
voices.   Some people use a classical music station, but I find that there
are too many loud crescendos.  Anyway, give Feliway a try, too.

Have you had any luck finding a FeLV+ shelter?  What area are you in?

Am In NY-Just north of NYC... so far any possibilities are all the way
across the country so not real feasable..  Things here are getting tough &
I've tentatively set Wednesday as deadline.  He really is unhappy... & I
know prolonging things too long will just stress him out even more.... It
breaks my heart but I just don't have any other options open to me... I'll
keep hoping something will turn up....

I wish I could take him, but my cats are negative, too. :-(

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure what area of NJ this woman is in, but check this out:
http://members.petfinder.org/~NJ197/

This woman is dedicated to helping FeLV cats.  Maybe she can help.

It's a shame you're not closer to N. Plainfield NJ. I know they have HIV+
cats there and are a no kill shelter.

You know that the "H" in "HIV" is short for "Human", right? ;-)

Sorry, I know what you meant; just found it cute. How far is N.
Plainfield from where Chris is?

N. Plainfield is an easy drive--what shelter are you referring to?

Ooops it's Plainfield not N. Plainfield
Here's the info
Plainfield Area Humane Society
75 Rock Avenue
Plainfield, New Jersey 07063
Phone: 908-754-0300

You could try giving them a call and see what they recommend.

Let me add that I must have made 50 calls; posted on dozens of sites; done a
flyer... so far
nothing that is possible I'm in NY & any possibilities are clear on the
other side of the country...  I spend a good deal of time with him---but
remember, he has just come in from outdoors to being confined to either a
small bathroom or a dog kennel--I'd be miserable too!

Chris, have you contacted Petfinder about him? I know that they will
place ads for people who are fostering pets and not going through an
agency, and they'll specify FeLV+ status as a "special needs" cat.

I would cover the cage with something lightweight enough to let air in yet
keep it dark.  He'll probably sleep a lot.  Then slowly uncover small parts
of it at a time over a weeks time.  The radio with soft music is a good
idea too.  Good luck.
