Anyone else's cat do this?

Angela - 14 Jan 2004 16:04 GMT My cats like to dig around in my purse and swipe my hair brush. As soon as they have it out, they then proceed to roll their hairy bodies and faces all over it.
It's not like we don't brush them. I am having to clean my hairbrush out all the time. I have enough hair in it of my own, without adding their hair...LOL, I am just glad they do not have fleas!!!
One of the cat also learned that a stuffed Stitch on the bed has a great hand for "self petting". He has these little fabric "claws" and apparently those are just perfect for rubbing against to get the contact he needs without having to ask a human. (He's a semi feral, and he ONLY allows us to touch him when he is in one of two places, and ONLY when HE initiates contact first. We have owned him since he was around 7 weeks old, he is a year old now and he has made great strides by our allowing him to set his own pace at how people social he is. He loves being petted on his own terms.)

Mine don't do that, but they have an odd facination with playing in the bathtub (sans water).
I've also had to buy a bathroom garbage can with a lid because I was worried the habit of playing with q-tips would end up in vet bills for one of them eventually. Not to mention how tedious picking up q-tips all over is. *g*

You need to buy them one of those face-scratcher thingies you mount on a corner on the wall. But then, after you spent the money on it, they'd probably ignore it and keep using the hairbrush.

Well, if it's dripping, they try to drink it. And when I shower, Rowan pops her head in to play with it.
But God forbid I try to bathe her. Horror of horrors. *snicker*

Angela - 15 Jan 2004 16:18 GMT The two semi ferals Cajun and Doby, they both love to play in the bathtub. I am not quite sure what they are doing in there, but they spent a lot of time in there. I have to rinse out the cat fur to take a bath. (long haired boys)
It's been a great experience with these two boys, and it's been amazing watching as they have adapted to household life from the two terrified kittens they used to be. Cajun is much less shy than his brother, and has me trained to give him cat treats. (I am training him to high five for it, no freebies now that he is hooked) They are much more oriented towards Dh, than towards me, but they tolerate me. LOL...
I am so glad that we decided to make them indoor cats, and ignore the fact that they might never be as cuddly as they are "supposed" to be. We like them just as they are, and rejoice with every milestone they have made as they have become more and more trusting towards us.
They know that Pongo, the old one is the matriarch, and they must bow their heads to her so she will give them one or two licks on their faces. She really hated them at first, but was polite about it. Miss Pongo is always polite, even while flat out MAD! No chasing her either, it's against the rules, even if she is running around from imaginary demons.
Even stealing my hairbrush to brush their fuzzy faces, or pilfering hair scrunchies, is adorable. And, we think that Cajun made off with the bathroom sink strainer. We can't find it anywhere, so he probably has it hidden. Eventually, it will turn up on the bed, which is where they bring all their toys.
Aren't cats grand? (Sorry, this got long...LOL...gotta brag about my boys)

DevilsPGD - 16 Jan 2004 23:10 GMT >Well, if it's dripping, they try to drink it. And when I shower, Rowan >pops her head in to play with it. Yeah, if it's dripping then cool... But it's not always dripping. They're just fascinated by water, as long as it doesn't touch them.
I have a couple automatic watering thingies... I don't think they really believe it's water as the dish is filling.
>But God forbid I try to bathe her. Horror of horrors. *snicker* heh. Indeed.

In all seriousness, while she hasn't gone after my hairbrush, Paintball has been known to dig around in purses and bags for a specific item (put it back, she goes after it as soon as your back is turned).

I've had to move my stash from the cupboard under the bathroom sink to the toilet topper cupboard. Not exactly within arms reach anymore, but so far, they haven't learned how to stand on the closed toilet seat and open *that* cabinet. And, yes, to that unasked question, the first time they ran down the hall into the living room with one they filched out of the bathroom trash was the last time. ;~) A bathroom trashcan with a closing top was immediately purchased. And, if I leave my purse accessible (which I'm bad about doing), they *will* go into it for pens and pencils and tampons. They seem to have an unhealthy fascination with doing this whenever company comes and have "fetched" their playtoy proudly, jumping up into the lap of the visitor to present it to them. Those folks who run horrified into the night I figure were probably going to not make it to friendship level anyway. On the otherhand, my best girlfriend was not pleased, but calmly said "Thank you, Polar" when he jumped up on her lap with the mouse he'd been stalking under the refrigerator for two days. A keeper, for sure. :~)

BF's comment on that was, "Think he's trying to warn me that you might be cranky tonight?"
God, I was embarrassed at the time. It's funny now though.

I've never had Kami actually steal a brush, but when I leave hers out, she will self- groom on it. She had a Cat-a-Comb on the corner of the wall she really liked, too. I forgot to take it off and bring it with us when we moved. :( I'll have to find another as soon as I figure out which is her favorite rubbing corner.

This is funny! I think they like your scent, which is all over the brush since we have so many scent glands in our scalp. Also the scritchy brush feels good. But the #1 reason for it may be that cats have great senses of humor!!
