Morning howling

About 3 months ago I took in a 5 month old kitten. Previous owner
didn't mention anything about the fact that about 6am every morning he
starts howling to beat the band.  When he started out with me he
obviously had a healthy dose of seperation anxiety.  I mean like the
fact that the shower curtain was between us cause him issues.  He has
improved immensely and there is another cat in the house so he is
never truly alone.  I have let him sleep with me and he wakes up and
wants to run around I put him outside the bedroom and he sits at the
door to howl. If he starts out the night outside the door already he
still starts to howl @6am.  I have tried leaving food out, a special
toy, trying to wake him up @ midnight to play with him so he is worn
out a little later in the day (can't get him to wake up and play).  I
have squirted and stuffed pillows under the larger than normal crack
under the bedroom door
NOTHING WORKS.

I miss sleeping through the night. Any ideas?

I imagine you have taken this baby to the vet to get him a clean bill
of health? If not, you know that is first priority.

My only other suggestions are to make him a nice bed as far from your
room as possible, make sure it is in a safe area, fill it with lots of
toys, and get yourself a loud Hepa-type filter or fan for your room so
that you cannot hear him when he howls. If he is healthy and you give
him lots of attention at other times, he ought to come around.

Ear plugs. Honestly. I started wearing them at night and started
sleeping much better. You can get them very cheap at Wal-Mart. The
best ones are orange foam and can be found in the sporting goods
section.

Sue, do you get used to the feel of them?

I was worried about that, too. But yes, I got used to them. I mean,
you're sleeping (theoretically) so you're not going to feel them! ;-)
I suppose there are one or two folks who won't be able to get used
to them. Look at how many people wear a wristwatch, but my brother
swears he can't stand wearing one!

Aha! I think I see a solution to the snoring spouse problem! ;)

Nothing in your post mentioned your taking him to a vet for neutering.
If he hasn't been, this is your problem.

Thanks everyone. He is healthy as a horse and neutered. Picked up some
stuff that you use to train em to stay off furniture and going to
spray it on the bottom of the door. Who knows right?

So sweet, so cute.. and yet so loud!

Did you try getting up and feeding him at this time? Mine for some
reason want to be fed at the crack of dawn and will not give up
bothering the crap out of me until I get up and feed them. After that
they settle right down and we all go back to bed.

Oh yeah. I have given up on that part. The prob is been usually after
that by about an hour even if i do get up, Dante comes right back to
the door.  So far the spray seems to lessen it. It is only day 3, so
keep your fingers crossed.

Don't put him out of the bedroom when he starts to run around? ;-)
