My mother looks after several stray cats in Turkey where she lives.
One of them has a constant red discharge from one side of his mouth
which looks like dried blood. His gums are also bright red. He's only
about 6 months old.
She took him to the local vet who said it was a vitamin deficiency and
to give him yeast tablets, which she has - but there has been no
improvement so far. She can't remember the name of the vitamin he
said.
Does this sound familiar to anyone, and if so will the yeast help? She
doesn't have much faith in the local vets.

Wow. That's a tough spot because I bet there aren't many vets interested in
stray welfare there. If it is the gums, nothing less than an antibiotic
would, I think, help. Can your mum find a different vet, one more cat
oriented? I don't think yeast tablets are going to do a thing for this cat.

Is your mother in Istanbul? When I used to live there I adopted a cat
and her kittens, who are now living with me in the UK. I was lucky to
have had a wonderful vet. I can give you her info if your mother's in
the same area.

Thanks, but she's in Kalkan, about 500 miles to the south of Istanbul!
