As far as I know, peanut butter can't hurt a cat, so a small amount as a treat
should be fine.

Animal based oils are more bioavailable to the cat. A good source of oil would
be whole body fish oil, available at most any health food market. I have used
a brand made by Carlson's. Right now I use Omega 700 by Solgar which I add to
my cats' homemade diet.

Thanks. That's not hard for me to believe about the bioavailability, since
the kind of fats that a wild carnivore would normally consume would be
animal based. I'm also aware that some sources of protein are more
bioavailable for human consumption than others, so it's understandable that
some sources of fat would be more bioavailable to a cat than others. So I'll
certainly switch my own kitties meals from canola to fish oil as an
ingredient . Come to think of it, when I did the Google newsgroup search I
recall reading that someone had found a low cost source for fish oil
available at the pet stuff department.of their local K-Mart store.
