Hi!
A stray cat has dropped a litter in my
backyard. They've been there off and on
for over a week. Their eyes have been open
for a few days. I figure they were born
around the 4th. I feed and water them.
I wonder if my 2 cats will kill them?
They are female, long spayed, one about
2-y-o, the other about nine.
So far, they respect kitten's nest and
show no aggression unless Mom tries to enter
the house. They are mostly indoor cats but
often have outside access. No killer training,
can't kill a bug. In particular I wonder about
when the kittens will leave their nest to play,
or when Mom is not home.
If there their might be problems, I'll shoo
away the Mom/kittens and let them deal with
the outside not-so-wild. Mom took here her kittens
away once before for a few days when I was watering.
I have no intention of keeping mom around after
the kittens are gone. 2's enough.
Thanks!

Just what are you going to do with mom?

Shoo her way with the water hose.
For all I know, she has people.
She is very very friendly, or hateful.
...Hormones I figure.

Why don't you try finding a rescue group for her. Seems pretty nasty to just
"shoo" her away.

Yeah, really. :( If she had a home she wouldn't be in your yard with her
kittens. If she is friendly then she *used* to have a home but someone
probably dumped her. Stupid people. Anyway, if you don't want to take care
of her then try to find a rescue group and give them a few bucks while
you're at it.

Are you a cat lover? I think you should find a nice home or shelter for
the mother and the kittens. That would be the right thing to do. Do
the right thing Doug. : )

Yes, I agree. I doubt if your cats will harm the kittens and it is nice to
provide them a safe haven but to feed them for awhile and then stop feeding
them and shoo them away is cruel. They don't understand why you would quit
feeding them. What are you thinking will happen to the kittens? They will
stay where the food is so you will have to "shoo" them away, too. Take the mom
and the kittens now to a shelter so that someone kinder than you will help
them. Otherwise, they will keep breeding and get run over and have all sorts
of bad things happen to them. If you have your own cats, you must realize what
nice animals they are and how they can't help it if they're stray cats.
