I have a 4 month old, male Siamese kitten. He is hyper-active - always running and knocking over stuff - trys to jump up walls and scratches the paint. Also, he chews everything and has already dammaged an upholstered chair and a throw pillow. Questions: 1) Will he be easier to control after he is neutered? 2) Could he be teething - causing chewing? 3) How long will it take him to grow out of this kitten stage and chill out like a proper cat? Siamese are sometimes hyperactive by nature. Kittens most certainly are hyperactive. They start to slow down a little at 2 years I've noticed. You could get him another kitten to play with to tire himself out. It's also so much fun to watch kittens playing together. If you're gone a lot in the day time, a solo kitten will get bored, get into trouble and may be too much to handle when you come home. He is old enough to get neutered now. How "proper"? I have one that is nine who still tears around like an elephant and terrorizes his sister. Granted, he also sleeps about eighteen hours a day, but still... ;-) Okay, more seriously, he'll chill out a bit after he's a year or two old. He leaps up and grabs, and slides right down. He's been doing it for the six months I've had him. He doesn't seem to realize that he'll always slide right down. Sometimes when I'm resting I can hear him jumping and sliding, jumping and sliding, over and over again. It is one of the things about him I find most amusing and adorable. He's being a kitten, so it's going to be..interesting for a while, but play with him and this will also help him to bond with you as well as calm down a bit. My first cat: by the time she was about a year old, she'd calmed down considerably. Otoh, I adopted a calico when she was about a year, & she was Ms. Super Hyper Kitty for a l-o-n-g time.
