I think a spay op is around $125 here - upstate NY.  But in the past people
have listed all sorts of figures - both higher & lower.

In the midwest city I live in, I would expect it to be no more than $65.00.
My current vet does it for even less. Spays are more expensive as they need
a deeper anesthesia. It is more yet if you have blood tests done first to
make sure cat has no hidden problems that anesthesia would provoke.

Depends a lot on where you live, and whether or not you have a vet in
your area that does low-cost neutering - call your local HS and ask if
they know of vets who do it.

The last vet where I worked (N. CA) charged $45 complete for
unpregnant females - more if preggo - if they were near-term it ran
about $150.  He also did a certain number of free and at-cost neuters
as a public service.

There are low cost clinics that'll do it for $20 around here, and the
hospital we use (which is a bit expensive on the outset) will do $130 for
the whole nine yards, modulo blood work.  There is a cat only facility,
otoh, that we used once that'll do a female for around $60-80.

Ask an animal shelter. I'm in Maine and the state actually has a program
where the state will pay for spaying, etc. I got a cat from a shelter a
few years ago and they gave me a paper to  take with me to the vet for
free spaying.

Check with your local SPCA.  Some offer vouchers which are accepted by quite
a large number of vets.

The local (San Francisco) SPCA and Humane Society (San Mateo) are $40.00
and $45.00 respectively.  However, both require proof of vaccination
(FVRCP) which, if acquired at a low cost vaccination clinic, costs
around $12.00.
