Grandcat Trouble

OK, here's one for all of you.
I am babysitting the grandcat for two weeks. We've had no problems with
integration, probably because my old cats are pretty well accustomed to
occasional interlopers by now.
This cat is about 6 months old, an orange tabby, and he is a wild child. His
least endearing trick is scaling the door facings. I've never had a cat do
this. He climbs to the top, like it was a tree. I'm sure with a little age and
maturity he'll settle down. In the meantime, I'd like to gather whatever
suggestions anyone has.

Do you have a 6 foot stepladder? Can you set it up by a window until he
goes back home? That might be a good compromise, and if you want to get
fancy and send it home with him you can make a taller version of this:

Wow, that is really awesome!  Are you the one who made this, Megan?  If so,
what did you use to cut the opening in the cardboard concrete mold?

Unfortunately, no. It's one of the links at my website for
do-it-yourself stuff.

I would love to make one, but I'm not really good at this kind of stuff.  But
then again I guess the cats wouldn't really care what it looks like, only that
it's fun for them.

That is SO cool!
I wish I could make stuff like that. I have two left hands, so to speak.
*LOL*

You could sell that stuff on ebay and make lots of money from klutzes
like me. hehe

How cute! I can make one of those! I even have some of those cardboard tubes in
different sizes out in the garage. My DH brings them home from work--they use
them to ship parts in. I don't think it will settle Wild Child down any but it
would be perfect to send home with the little beggar.
This has been a real experiece and just makes me laugh at myself mostly. I
grabbed him off the door facing just now and said "We don't DO that at
Grandmother's house!!!"
Like that's going to do any good.

I used to love going to my grandma's house.  We had so much fun there.  I bet
this kitty is thinking the same thing :)

I finally got a pic of the little helllion. He's still climbing the door
facings. We have an unfinished cat tree started, and he's had a lot of fun with
that too, but he still prefers the trim. Second pic he is hanging with the big
boys. It's amazing that they don't try to hurt him. They hiss a little when
he's stepped over the time, but much of the time they actually play with him.

Oh, he's darling.  He does look like a little hellion, though.

What a little cutie, Sherry!  They all look like they're having a blast on that
cat tree.

He's so cute!!!! And the three of them together are adorable. You must
be so proud. :)

Proud? Heh. I'm taking him to be neutered tomorrow and will just be grateful I
get a 24-hour break from him. No joke. I don't have the energy level to deal
with him. He's like a short 2-year-old. I've had a lot of cats. But this one
takes the cake.

"Hellion" seems like an accurate term. ;-)

He's a cutie, for a hellion.

I can still see my Phantom doing this, at the cottage this summer.  He'd
tear through the place and right up the door frame!

He's stopped doing it now....just had to calm down a bit, with age, I
think :)

My kitten (now 6 mos.) does the same thing....also climbs a pole that
divides our family room from the kitchen.  I bought a cat tree for him and
he climbs that too.  Not sure how to get him to stop the climbing.  Just
waiting for him to get a little older to see if he calms down a bit.

Don't count on it if he's anything like my almost 4 year old.  He is still a
climbing maniac!
