Mitch@hotmail.com - 02 Dec 2003 01:06 GMT The cat finally peed in the litter box for the first time, but didn't bury it. Is that strange? It's just sitting on top in a puddle.
Kind of hard for the litter to clump that way. :-)

Btw - *lots* of poeple ask this question. ;-)

Be thankful..My recently adopted cat took a while to use the box..instead, she made on the sheets, the blankets...the floor. Found a wonderful litter, Feline Pine, that absorbs the smell. Maybe you need to switch litters. Btw, cats have different ways of using the box..One of my cat never buried...another, spent 5 minutes burying.
Mitch@hotmail.com - 02 Dec 2003 01:38 GMT Unfortunately, my wife bought "Fresh scent" litter. I didn't notice any scent before, but it seems like after the cat peed in it, it activated a pretty strong, perfumey smell.
I'll replace it with unscented tomorrow and see if that helps.
Geez, I seriously don't think I talked about "poop" and "pee" this much when we had our first child!

I use a litter called Swheat Scoop made from wheat, all natural and no smell. Most pet supply stores carry it.

The World's Best Cat Litter is also non-scented; it's made from corn, is a clumping litter, & is truly flushable. However, I don't know if Wal-Mart carries it or not.

But I would at least try something unscented.

I think it's great stuff but only some of my 5 cats like it as much as I do. Christine

LOL! Uh, we did with our kids, particularly around potty-training time. Believe me, cats are much easier than kids in this! Christine
Cat Protector - 02 Dec 2003 16:26 GMT Actually try using Lasting Pride. My cats use it and it clumps pretty well. You can get it at Walmart.

You go ahead and cover it and i bet she'll get the idea. At least now you know she'll use it.

Mitch@hotmail.com - 02 Dec 2003 05:23 GMT Yeah, I was pretty happy. I let her watch me cover it, and I gave her some serious kudos. She's gonna be a good cat, I can tell.

Glad your cat is now using the litter box. Don't worry about the covering up thing. Some cats leave it uncovered as a macho act. Eventually they will cover it and your cat will do a nice job for you (and for him) -- good luck!

Some kitties cover and some don't; individual differences! Christine
Cat Protector - 02 Dec 2003 16:25 GMT Every once and a while Jade forgets to bury hers. I wouldn't worry if this happens. I equate it to humans who don't remember to flush after using the toilet.

She just took her firt poop in the litter box, and didn't bury it. I can't have exposed poop sitting in my house! It stinks!

It stinks! Just be vigilant with the cat scooper and you'll be fine. You can buy an aerosol spray called "Neutra-Air" (made by the Lysol people, I believe) from Target or similar store (got mine at the local grocery store) and spray in the air -- it's made specifically to "neutralize odors in the air from odor-causing bacteria" and works quite well. hope this helps, Christine

It stinks! So place her in the box and praise her and gently take her little paws and cover it up, then praise her some more and give her a treat.
Mitch@hotmail.com - 03 Dec 2003 18:26 GMT One thing I did do was cover myself while she watched. I heard her say something like "heh, heh....sucker." :-)
The Petsmart order came today, which included furniture spray, catnip spray, sticky tape and a nice bed. Oh, and a dog catalog.

This is just one type of toy--the Crackler series that has some sort of something inside that crackles like the plastic bags cats love to play with! Every cat I have ever known goes totally nuts over these toys.
Check out the other lines, like "Doggy Dress n Drag," too. These are beautiful, funny toys, and they are not kidding when they call the catnip inside "Zoom-around-the-room!"
These are the very best cat toys. No, I don't work for them I just love them!
