I've given all three cats ABs twice now. The young ones are fairly easy,
though very squirmy. It's like trying to hold an eel. But I've managed
to get at least some of the stuff into them. But Frank fights me so
hard, but then, I knew he would. We've been through this so many times.
Well, I think I've got some of it down the inside of his throat, as well
as the outside. Happily, they all seem to have great appetites in spite
of the meds, at least so far. Even Frank has perked up a lot since last
week and eats properly again. I starved him for 24 hours during the
weekend, and that seems to have set his tummy right. For now, until the
ABs mess it up again.

I got some capsules of those good bacteria and mixed it in [dairy
product that doesn't have a name in English]. It's lactose-free and also
has some beneficial bacteria (made in a similar way to yoghurt), so I
hope that will help the tummies. Miranda had no voice at all yesterday,
but today she can manage a little squeak. Frank is perkier than he has
been for days, and Caliban never seemed sick at all, except for the
runny eyes and stuffy nose (he keeps coming up to me to sneeze on my
face - nice). So far so good.

When Laku or Nico have the runs we give them a veterinary med called
Attapekt (see http://www.aptus.fi/attapekt.htm - Finnish only). The
manufacturer recommends to give the pet their electrolytic (sp?) drink
if the diarrhea and/or vomiting is massive, but our kitties have so far
had their tummies settle with just that powder mixed in with their food.

Aptus also has a lactic acid bacteria product (Tehobact) for upset
tummies that can be used in combination with ABs.

I don't know about capsules, but in the U.S. sweet acidopholus milk has the
"good bacteria" in it.  There's probably something similar in capsule form
available, I've just never looked for it.

It does sound like they're making progress. :)

I'm so glad to hear the kitties are feeling better, that is so important.
Lots of purrs and best wishes for them to recover really soon and for you to
be able to give them the antibiotics (sorry about Caliban sneezing on your
face, Marina),

Oh my goodness.  The thought of having to pill three cats every day fills me
with dread.   Last time Kitty FC went to TED and needed antibiotics we both
agreed that it would be impossible to pill her, so he gave her a long acting
antibiotic injection instead - with the fingers he had left <g>
Could this be done for yours to save you all the difficulty of getting pills
down their throats several times a day?
