Something nice and something sad

When I was waiting at the vet's yesterday, something nice happened. The
emergency vet's is at the vet school, and they receive lost animals,
too. While I was there, a couple brought in a little d*ggie that they
had found running around loose near their home. I know nothing about d*g
breeds, but he looked like Eddie in 'Frasier', except he had longer fur.

The receptionist called the person on duty in the lost animals
department, and she could give a name and number to call immediately.
About half an hour later, a very happy d*ggie was reunited with his very
happy owners, another young couple. Aww! I was so glad to see that the
system works so well here, and I think there can't be very many animals
in the lost animals department if the person on duty was able to place
the foundling immediately.

While I was waiting, there was also a family (mum, dad and three young
boys) who brought in a cat they had found. They had put the cat in a
hamper and tied a net on top. The cat was not very happy to be there,
but he/she has a good chance of going back home now, I believe. Oh, and
there was an elderly man who was reunited with his two Pekinese.

I saw a couple of sad things there too. One woman brought in a big dog
who looked very old and walked very slowly when they were called in to
the surgery. Some time later she came out without the dog, crying. Later
I saw the dog through a crack in the door when I went in to fetch Frank
and Mir. He was lying still on a table. Made me want to cry, too,
especially as it brought back memories of Nikki in that same place.

Another girl in her twenties was there with her parents. She was crying
too, but I didn't see the pet she had. We are purring for these two sad
petslaves.

I have also "accidentally" seen recently pts (put to sleep) pets revealed by
a suddenly opened door at my vets but since I mentioned it to them they have
been more careful.  They do at least have a back door where they can take
them out without anyone seeing.
Unlike another local vet (don't start me on him!!) who has been known to
drag out dead dogs through his waiting room full of patients.

Many purrs for those, and others who have recently lost their beloved pets.
I know the feeling only too well.
