Back to work in less than three weeks!  OT

I went to my doctor today to see whether I will be able to return to work
fairly soon.  It's 11 weeks now since my surgery.
It was a doctor I had never seen before, a locum.  His appointments were
running well behind and I had to wait for ages, but I found out why, because
he gives you all the time you need (the other ones often rush you out as
quickly as they can.)
We talked through the letters received there from my consultant gynae who
operated on me.  Also what the phrase "borderline tumour" means for my
long-term prognosis rather than it being out and out benign.  He was amazed
by the size of my tumour and said "didn't you look like you were nine months
pregnant?" and I said "yes and how does it look now?"..flat (ish) tummy.
He examined me then and thinks my scar is healing well and the tenderness
and sometimes pain I feel is normal.  As he said "you have had major
surgery.." and thinks it will take a lot longer, maybe months to calm down.
The burning pain I get is apparently caused by nerves trying to reattach
themselves.
*So*  I can go back to work on August 31st!  Providing I don't lift anything
heavy just yet.   Oh, wow.  I'll get wages again ;-)
And.. the funeral is off :-))))

:-)   I had all the hymns worked out and everything...
Only because the hospital sent me home to await surgery for 2 weeks after
telling me I had almost no chance of a good outcome.  Sort of..hmmm, I'm
very sorry but I think your number is up..
So ffrrrrpppp! <big raspberry>  to them.
They hadn't taken into account the power of prayers and purrs.

Hurray!  This is really good news, Tweed, and  I'm really glad that
the funeral is off.   We've had enough bad news on rpca recently, and
we're about due for some good news.

I am glad to hear that you are feeling better.  Takes a while.  I had a
hysterectomy 2.5 yrs. ago.

There is a site that I utilized a lot--hystersisters.com

Am I off-base that it was a hysterectomy?

Take care,
Jen

I think I would describe it as a hysterectomy ++ !
I did come across the hystersisters site when I was looking for info re
recovery time/what can I expect re pain/discomfort/why doesn't my bladder
tell me when it is full/ and all that stuff.
Thanks for reminding me about it, I must go back and have another look.

No.  We do not say "spayed" for what I have just gone through.  Nor any
woman who has had to cope with a hysterectomy, particularly an abdominal
incision one, which I would describe perhaps as disembowelling.
Bad lad, Adrian.

IIRC, Pam S. calls hers a spay. So there. ;o)

Sorry Tweed,

I do call mine a spay.  It was a lower abdominal cut (the surgeon called a
bikini incision) and sometimes itches like the devil as there is no way to
stitch up something that close to the groin without involving some hair
follicles.  I suspect that the cats go through the same problems with
itchiness that I do.

I figure that if I have to deal with it, I might as well put some humor into
it as well.  I tell my girl cats that at least we're not littering up the
population any more.

It is? But I look so good in black.;o) Actually I'm really glad you're
recovering. Nerve endings can take a long time. I know from experience.
I'm glad you saw a Dr that actually answered your question. Purrs for your
continued recovery.

That's great news for your cash flow, and also, no doubt, for
your morale.  Just do take it easy at first.  You will *not* be
ready for a full hard day right off the bat.

Hope you enjoy it and get up to speed smoothly.

Thank you all for your encouraging messages and good wishes.
It's now only 5 days to go.  Eeek.  There are new team members now and my
manager who has seen me through all this has left.  A new manager started on
Monday.  We'll see how we go I suppose.

I can't say that I feel fit yet, I don't.  I get very tired when I don't do
all that much and often have to have a sleep in the afternoon.  I never
realised that the operation would take so much out of me.
Anyway, I'm going to have a go at going back to work and they'll just have
to understand that I'll need to take it easy for a while.
In some ways it will do me good.  I'm getting undisciplined, going to bed
very late and getting up proportionately late as well.
It will be a horrible shock to start getting up at 6.30 a.m. again ;-)
I have never been a naturally early riser.  I hate it and have never got
used to it even though I've had to do it for many years.
