Got notified by the Welsh Assembley today. I didn't get the job. :o(
I'm finding this really hard. I'm either too over qualified, too under
qualified, have the wrong qualifications, or all 3. It's really very
depressing.

Really sorry to hear this. Did you learn which of the 3 causes
applied on this occasion?
Purrs that an even better opportunity comes along soon

I'm sorry to hear that. :o(
Believe me, I know the sentiments EXACTLY. I got downsized out of a tech
job in 2001, and it took me until THIS YEAR to finally find a permanent
job instead of the various temp jobs I'd been able to line up. (In fact,
last week was when I passed the 90-day new-hire probation period. So this
is a *really* recent thing.)
If there is something more aggravating and demoralizing than being passed
over for a job you KNOW you're qualified for, I don't know what it is (and
I don't think I want to know).
All I can say is, remember to send the thank-you notes to these places for
the interview, and if there's a way to keep networking with any of these
people, do it.
And most important, *don't give up*. We're all purring and praying for
you.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Helen. Like others, I thought a long interview
was a good sign. Maybe it was a tough choice, did they offer you a chance
to phone for feedback?

At least they did notify you that you didn't get the job. Did they
give a reason why you didn't get it?

Yeah, got feedback and it was nothing I did particularly wrong. It went
to an internal candidate. i.e. They had someone already, but because
they have this equal oportunites employment cr*p, they interview from
outside to show they advertised the post. Same thing happened with the
Environment Agency, except in that situation there was already someone
in the job!!!

When I was office manager the only time we advertised was if we needed
to fill an opening and there weren't any employees qualified to fill
it. Equal opportunity should mean an equal opportunity for all
applicants and the most qualified person should get the position,
regardless of race, creed, or present employment.
Rant finished.

This is crap. I've had this one pulled on me before. Basically, what
it means is you never really had a shot no matter how good you were,
and they don't let you know that until afterwards.
They can lick your litterbox, IMHO. It's their loss.

Send a thankyou card anyway and try to stay in touch. If the first
person doesn't work out, they may call you later.
This happened once to me. I was the second choice by the interview
committee. The first choice worked there for four months and then
quit. They called me.
Had I still been looking for work, I would have taken it like that.
The salary was pretty good.
However, I was back in school, and telling them "no thanks" had an odd
satisfaction of its own.
Purrs for the future.

Do you live in Wales, Helen? I got to visit there once. I thought it was
beautiful, much like the area in Pennsylvania where I grew up. A lot of
Welsh coal miners settled in that area, and some of the towns have Welsh
names such as Bangor and Pen Argyll.
