'Someone' came in the house through the cat flap last night. The first clue
was the empty catfood dish, which I had filled before going to bed. And the
dirty tracks all over the counters. And, whatever it was took a box from the
cupboard, tore a hole in it and left a trail of Cream of Wheat across the
range hood, stovetop and floor.

I guess it's time to go back to using the magnetic collars on the cats for a
while.

Sounds like maybe a young (only kind that could fit) racoon.

I think the cats would have raised a ruckus had it been a 'coon. Possums and
skunks, they mostly ignore.

Do possums have hands lika a raccoon?  The damage sounds
more like what a raccoon might do (unless you live where
there are wild monkeys).

You'd be surprised how big a Raccoon will fit through a cat flap, in Florida
one year I had a whole family that used to come in and they were pretty damn
big.

Are raccoons too big to fit through a pet door?  None of
those I've seen were any larger than a large cat!
(Different shape, but no bigger than the twenty-pound cats
I've had.)

Any message that mentions a 20-lb. cat requires a Beverage Warning....

You never read any of my posts about Patches?  Or the other
large cats that friends have had?

I don't recall reading about their weight, just their size in general.

In my experience, a really big cat weighs about 15 lbs.

From my experience, 15 pounds is about the average weight for a grown
cat, with 20 not unusual for males.  My Cinders is only about 7 1/2
pounds, but she was apparently the runt of her litter.

Eli, my heaviest boy, weighs in at 15 lbs. Billy's getting pretty big too
but is not at 15 lbs. yet. Abelard is slightly less than half that amount,
and Tommy is around 12 lbs.

That's pretty funny! Did he get the box out the cat flap?

Somebody might be enjoying a good breakfast this morning...

Whatever it was, it was probably an omnivore or herbivore.  I don't
think that a visiting cat would have likely bothered with the Cream of
Wheat.
