Orlie, the twelve year old ginger fellow who moved in with us four
months ago, has passed the final milestone in becoming one of the family.
Last night he jumped up on my bed and slept there, along with all my
long-term resident furry masters. Yee har!

Well, not quite... there's still Tyler to go. But Tyler seems very happy
and comfortable sleeping on his own cat bed, and he's not such a cuddler
by nature. I was starting to worry a bit about Orlie, who is a real lap
cat. He would sometimes walk around the house miaowing after the rest of
us went to bed, but I couldn't persuade him to join us. When I'd pick
him up and place him on the bed with us he'd always jump straight down
and run off. I guess last night he just decided it was time to surprise
us. They have to do things on their own terms, don't they?
I don't really think Tyler will choose to stay left out on his own for
long now. I may have to get a bigger bed though!

Or they are afraid the bed is someone else's "territory."
Nocturne strongly encourages Smokey to think he is not allowed on the
bed by order of HER.
Fortunately he has learned not to listen to her tyrannical mutterings
(now if only he would listen to her telling him NO, please DO NOT try
to lick me....)
Way to go Orlie!

A house is not a home, without a cat.
