CatNipped - 02 Aug 2005 19:34 GMT OK, probably nobody but me, but I'll admit it.
I make up little "ditties" to sing to my cats all the time (sometimes to the tune of old 60s songs, but other times just kind of drony, jingle-type tunes). [One of them is to "MEE-EW" to the tune of Speedo.]
But one of them is just for Sammy who loves to lick on me. The "words" go:
I like, I like a lick-a I like, I like a lick-a I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like a lick-a.
Well, some of these get stuck in my head (ear-worm style), and I find myself humming and sometimes (mygawd) singing them to myself.
I was in Wal-Mart the other day when I noticed a lady looking at me quite strangely and realized I was singing the above little ditty out loud. And *then* realized what it sounded like to those around me...
I like, I like the liquor I like, I like the liquor I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like the liquor.
*BLUSH*

I sing to the kitties, especially Scouty. Sometimes she likes it, but she hates it when I sing 'I love your ears, I love your eyes, I love your paws, I love your nose etc' because I poke her in each part as I go... it's generally a cue for her to get up and leave!

I was sitting listening to the radio now, it was a program about hits (and gossip) from 1965. A good year for rock 'n roll... So when they started playing "Like a Rolling Stone" with Bob Dylan, I just couldn't help it, but had to sing along. Before this, Tinùviel had a nice time on my lap, almost asleep, but when I started to sing she just jumped straight up in the air and jumped down on the floor, giving me a not so very nice look.
Sorry, Tinùviel, I should have known that your taste and mine when it comes to my singing performance don't match...
So I prefer to speak to my cats, softly, gently, repeating their names all the times, and they seem to like that. Then they calm down and let me do all the good things they want me to do to them... But singing? Only when they are busy doing other things!

Are you sure it wasn't a comment on Bob Dylan's voice and not yours? There is only one song of his that I liked to hear him sing and that was "Lay Lady Lay." His voice stinks as bad as mine does.

[One of them is to "MEE-EW" to the tune of Speedo.] When Harri and I were out in the truck I used to make up all sorts of silly songs for her. Fortunately I never sang them when other drivers were around :)

YES! (raises hand) I reword all kinds of songs with cat-related lyrics.
And sing them to the cats. Constantly.
And sometimes forget myself and sing them in public when there are no cats around, simply because I sing these things ALL the time.
Such as this, to the theme song from "My Three Sons", a 60s show that I'm not even sure is being aired in reruns anymore:
The fuzzy cat The fuzzy cat I dote upon The fuzzy cat
Or to a kids' song, "The Farmer in the Dell":
The little fuzzy cat The little fuzzy cat Oh, he's adorable The little fuzzy cat
Or another song from when I was a kid, "Down by the Station". (see this for the real lyrics: http://www.weesing.com/songSheets/Train.pdf )
Dotin' on the kitty Dotin' on the kitty Dotin' on the kitty Dotin' on the cat!
Now, realize, ALL of these things have as many different verses as I can think of... I'm just giving one verse apiece so I don't appear to be any less sane than I already look. ;o)
But yes, to make a long story less long, I do sing to the cats. And live with the ever-present risk that I'll sing cat-oriented lyrics in public, particularly when I'm not in the presence of said cats.
It's just a part of life I deal with on a daily basis. ;o)

[One of them is to "MEE-EW" to the tune of Speedo.] ]] "Kittysongs" is a word in our household.
It's when you take a regular song and make up feline related lyrics.
Tyche likes "I'm a cat...what do you censored-censoreds think of that..." to the tune of Uptown Girl.
And I do catch myself singing them sometimes. Also rapping the kittyraps.

[One of them is to "MEE-EW" to the tune of Speedo.] When I first read this, I thought, "Hmm, I've never done this."
But when I thought about it some more, I realized that I have several songs for Betty. It's just that I sing them without really thinking about them.
One of the ones I sing is by Proudmari (I haven't seen here post here in a while). It goes:
Rocks in head kitty in the tree top, Firemen came twenty times to our block, When the bough breaks, dumb kitty you'll fall, I hope I can catch you, they said not to call!

Tanna Shoes, Tanna Shoes Tanna's wearing shoes... Tanna Shoes, Tanna Shoes, Tanna's got the blues...

LOL... which reminds me. I had one for Misty(RB) that I wrote to the tune of "Master of the House" from Les Miserables.
Misty's primary nickname was Misty-Poo, which eventually got shortened to just plain "Poo". Hence, the lyrics say:
Misty of the House Pretty little Poo Cute and grey and pampered and a fuzzball, too! Stretching with a yawn Sleeping on the bed All she has to do all day is purr and shed! And she loves to watch the birdies And she's never seen a mouse Fast enough to catch a cold is the Misty of the House!
She used to LOOOOVE being sung to. Particularly when I'd fit either her name or "Poo" into the lyrics. :o)

Lesley - 04 Aug 2005 11:03 GMT Oh dear okay I confess.....
There's the old Musical Youth song "Pass the Dutchie" but I sing it to Reduzel as "Pass the Dunzie"
Sarrasine's song is Zappa's "Goblin Girl" with the words changed to "I'm smitten with this kitten"
The other day Sarrasine was at the window and all I could see was her shadow and I regret to say I burst out with "I see a little silouhette of a cat. Sarrasine, Sarrasine will you do the fandango?" (You all know the song I hope....)
Alas my voice tends to cause the cats to run for it along with Dave

Tonight, we heard the song "Mickey" on the radio finally. It is one we have been singing around the house and we got to sing along with the radio version.
Oh Dudley your so fine! Your so fine you blow my mind! Hey Dudley! Hey Dudley!
Oh Dudley what a pity you dont understand. You take me by the heart when you take me by the hand. Oh Dudley you're so pretty cant you understand? ITS CATS LIKE YOU DUDLEY!...

Actually, it wouldn't have been as embarrassing if I had been singing another one, but it sounded like I was singing "I like the liquor" (good thing I wasn't on the "spirits" aisle!)! LOL!

Kitkat - 05 Aug 2005 00:54 GMT > OK, probably nobody but me, but I'll admit it. We dont make up original tunes, but we do try to "Dudley-fy" every song. We are always fitting his name into various songs. It's amazing how well his name fits! We of course do it to Luna, too, but definitely to Dudley more. (Dudley=Jasper...same cat!...for those who dont realize)
