Do all cats purr like this?

Recently I've noticed that Oscar's little ribcage acts as bellows when
she's purring.  Out, in, out, in, in very distinct and forceful
movements.  Not like her normal breathing at all.

Is that the way all cats purr?

I often see that.

I've noticed it with some cats. I don't think all. I think it depends on the
loudness of the purr.

I think Oscar can be pretty loud.  I've certainly been around much
more softly-purring cats, including ones I could barely hear at all.

Possum is a mega loud purrmachine, but Tygra is barely noticeable unless
she's on top of you.  I've noticed the thing with the sides on Possum,
but not on Tygra.

Yes, as far as I know.

Because Will is asthmatic, I frequently want to time his resting
respirations.  To do that, I have to wait until he's done
purring, which can take some time as he's a marathon purrer.

Miranda does that. She really 'pumps' out the purrs, which is pretty
much the only way to tell that she is purring, since her purrs are
almost completely silent.

Nikki used to do it too, but her purr was like a little motor boat (can
be heard at http://www.possibleplaces.com/Nikki_Purr/ thanks to
CatNipped, though I still can't listen to it) so her effort looked worth it.

Yup, Rusty does that quite often. I can feel it in his ribcage.
