Mere huntress part II

While I've been in town, packing, moving and unpacking, the cats have
been looked after on the island by their Grandmeowmie. She even moved
down into my shack so 'they wouldn't be lonely at night'. (Yes, they
have her firmly wrapped around their little paws. She spoils them like
she would any grandchild.)

My mother reports that, the other night, she was woken by Miranda, who
was playing with something, making huge leaps and batting something
around. Mum turned on the lights and saw that she had a grasshopper. She
played and played with it, then finally took it back outside.

A little later, when Mum was just drifting back to sleep again, she is
startled by Miranda, who'd come back in and was playing again. Mum turns
on the light, expecting to see the grasshopper again, but this time,
Miranda had another shrew. Mum's not sure if it was alive when Mir
brought it inside, but it was dead by the time she turned on the lights.
Miranda is really taking this huntin' business seriously! I like to
think that Nikki is lending her a guiding paw.

Awwww, Nikki most certainly *is* guiding Mir as the new island huntress!
I'm glad Miranda is enjoying island life.

How's the unpacking thing going?  How do you think Frank and Miranda will
take to going home to a *new* home?

Well, it seems that Frank usually doesn't mind a new place, as long as
he has his bed to sleep on and his Meowmie to cuddle up to. We moved
around a lot when he (and I) was younger, so he got used to settling
into new places all the time. Miranda is anyone's guess. I think when
she sees the little garden, she won't mind a bit. ;o) I'm arranging to
have it enclosed partially. I'll have to keep a sharp eye out at first,
though, before I get the enclosure, because when I bring her home from
the island she might have forgotten what it's like to be confined
inside. On the island she has free access to the out 24/7.

This just in: current total: 4 shrews, 1 grasshopper. I wish she didn't
kill all those shrews, though, since they are very useful little rodents
who eat insects. But Nikki seems to have pretty much wiped out the vole
population on the island.

I'm sure Nikki is showing Miranda how to hunt.
