Can a 9-week-old kitten be incorrigible?
What do I do now, buy a Super Soaker?
NEVER seen anything like it. She thinks it's a game, runs full-force
into the mist, runs around the room, then back up at the spray bottle.
She is a curtain climber, a leg climber, a plant digger, and a toe
biter. She isn't a counter-jumper, but that's just because she can't
jump that high. She hasn't learned the art of Toilet Paper Shredding or
Trash Digging yet.
My legs, hands and neck look like I've been trying to prune cactus. And
I don't let her do it, either. I quit wearing jewelry, which helps with
the neck thing.
She attacks the broom and isn't one bit afraid of the Big Sucky
Monster. She runs to the door at the sound of the doorbell to see who's
new she can terrorize.
She already knows she can walk all over the other cats and they wo't
hurt her, except Bootsie, who has become an excellent babysitter. All I
have to do is let Bootsie in the room, and she is still and quiet as a
little mouse.
Then all of a sudden, she FALLS down and goes sound asleep, sometimes
in the middle of the floor. We call it her "power nap", because in 10
minutes, she's at it again, and worse than before.
I have *never* seen anything like her!

Um. I don't think she has the correct name. Can you change it to Little
Devil? :-o)

"The female of the species is more deadly than the male" (R Kipling,
1911)
There's a reason I've opted for another boy :-)
But I'm not expecting the furniture or curtains to live long. The TP and
other movables have been hidden and a big new Playcentre built.
Once you've done what you can you batten down the hatches and prepare
for a stormy ride.
Purrs that little Angel soon grows into her name.

I don't know. But she sounds WAY to cute to give up. I notice you named her
;)

Yes, Tyche was also a water fan and required a Super Soaker.
You might also want to try a jar full of stones--something to make a
sudden, sharp noise (yes, you make a noise, NOT throw it at her! ;)
Tyche at least had a sister to beat up....I'm glad Angel has a feline
playmate to distract her.
Good luck..

Sounds like Sammy - which is why one of her nicknames was Satan's Little
Helper! Sammy's 15 months old now and the only thing that has changed so
far is her size and the amount of destruction she can leave in her wake.
I'll let you know when she stops being, well, "Sammy". ;>

Sherry, sounds like she's ruling the roost! Would love to see some piccies
of her running in the mist. It seems like she likes to be the center of
attention so maybe try the time-out for 10 minutes bit?

We tried that before the spray bottle. She was spending more time in
the bathroom than she was out of it. It just makes her worse. Like
she's got to make up for lost time. Seriously I wonder if it's because
she was an orphan and didn't have the mother's "discipline" when she
was tiny. Or if it's because she looks half-Siamese. She's not just
normal kitten ornery, she is *frantically* ornery, and never slows
down, ever, except when she plops down for a power nap. It's like
kitty-ADHD or kitty-hyperactivity. (Not making light of those two
things in children; but if there is a feline version, it really seems
to fit her)

I'm starting to think what you just said about Siamese might be it. They
seem to have more of the devil in them. Rexie's a feral Siamese (amazingly,
the vet says altho he's feral, both parents were Siamese!)
But the cat we had years ago was a Siamese mix and could she get into
trouble! But right when you'd want to get your gun and blow her away, she'd
come and cuddle! She was a loving thing, tho kind of wild. Rexie had better
start learning to be cuddly, for his own sake!

Hmmm. How do you think she would feel sitting in a cage at the shelter.....

I don't know, Sherry, it sounds an *awful* lot like Stinky in his
hoolikitten days-- he was either bouncing off the ceiling or fast
asleep. And because he was so temperamentally easy-going and
accepting-- well, there was nothing I could have done, short of
throwing him through a plate glass window that could have dissuaded
him from doing whatever he wanted to do.
His first Thanksgiving here, he leaped on the dining room table (while
we were having dinner), grabbed a drumstick-- a *turkey * drumstick
mind you, almost as big as he was, and tried to drag it off, leopard
style. My mother was absolutely mortified. When we scolded him, he
loved it because we were talking to him. Like your little devil, he
thought the squirt bottle was a game-- he thought *everything* was a
game, and whatever you did to him was just part of the game. I really
was afraid he was not normal, and would not settle down-- but I was
wrong. He did in his own time. All I can tell you is try to hang on
through this, and try to find the humor in it.

That's like Miranda too. Sometimes, when she would not leave Frank alone
and he wanted to take a nap, I shut her in the bathroom. Only way for me
and Frank to get some sleep at night sometimes. But she was even worse
when she was let out. Ooh, I really, really hope getting a little
brother for her to play with will lessen the aggravation, not increase
it. What am I letting myself in for? :oP

If she's like my Miu, a Super Soaker wouldn't do any good!
If he was doing something he WANTED to do, I could squirt
him until he was literally dripping wet, and it did no good.
Is Angel Siamese? (Miu was part Siamese, and inherited
all the temperament, which certainly made him incorrigible,
although I'm not sure whether that accounted for the
indifference to getting wet.)

LOL! She sounds exactly like Miranda, curtain-climbing,
flowerpot-digging and all. hehehe. Just wait, soon she will discover the
TP greeblings.

Now you sit back and enjoy it. One of the best shows available on the
planet. While I really do understand and sympathize with your "problem"
I'd sure like to have another little problem running around here. But with
limited time and resources and healthy cats who live a good while, I only
get to love a kitten once in a great while.

You might have to nickname her "Fallen Angel." =o)
Sounds like you've got a prime Hoolikitten there. Once she discovers
the Toilet Paper Greeblings, be prepared for long festoons of slightly
shredded TP all over the place. I will say that Nina rarely attacks
the TP, anymore, so there's hope that Angel will grow out of this
phase. =o)

There's your problem, the mist. You need to fiddle with the nozzle
until you get a nice narrow stream. She won't like that nearly as much :)

I had the same problem with Sundance. Someone suggested using a can of
compressed air -- just for the sound, not to blow on them. It does seem to
work.

I've tried simply hissing at the cat myself, which works for
some of them. (Not Melisande, unfortunately - she waits
until I'm occupied with something uninterruptable, then gets
into mischief, and hissing doesn't do the least good!)

BTDT Seems like Sammy waits until I'm on the computer, no where near
the water bottle, to get into things. Telling her to stop doing
whatever just gets me the ear, but I've found that a short blast from
the can of compressed air (doesn't have to be anywhere near her, I
think the sound is what does the trick) that is on the shelf about the
computer usually causes her to stop unwanted behaivor.
