You want to try telling that to Scout and Silver? If it's sweet
they're into it, and not just if it's yoghurt! The little blighters
steal bits of cookie, and lick icecream bowls, dessert bowls,
cakecrumbs, pie filling... you name it. The only thing they hate is
cinnamon - they think it ruins a perfectly good bowl :P

So then why does Harvey love dreamsicles so?  If I am eating a
dreamsicle then you can best belive Harvey is there for his licks. And
yes I do share often we lick it together.

on the radio article I heard, they say cats that go for ice cream are
attracted to the fat content. Hmmm.....Or perhaps the sweet smell. THey can
SMELL sweet, they just can't tatste it.

That sounds like it could be right, because the more his fishy food
stinks the better he likes it.

Well it's not the fat content.  Samson won't touch plain milk.
However I nearly have to speed eat my cereal ,which has sugar in it,
so that Sammy doesn't start drinking the milk before I'm done with the
bowl myself.  Yesterday I had the feeling he was going to push me
aside to get to the bowl, and I hadn't even started eating at the
time.

Most sweet foods have other flavors in addition to being sweet.  For
the comparison to be meaningful, the researchers would have to add
sugar to some otherwise non-sweet food, and see if cats preferred the
sweetened version to the non-sweetened version.

Still no valid comparison - how many humans (even those with
the most persistent "sweet tooth") would prefer any food
sweetened that wasn't SUPPOSED to be sweet?  Personally, I
will never eat (except as a dinner guest, when I feel I must
for the sake of good manners) any meat or poultry dish that
contains anything sweet.  When I encounter something like
chicken salad with grapes and/or pineapple at a luncheon,
it's all I can do to choke down a couple of mouthfuls, just
to be polite!  (I don't even like sweetened salad-dressings.)

I think Ranger and Tabitha will have a good laugh at this one. They both
seem to prefer sweet snacks. Ranger especially - she has almost tried to
beat  me up in the past when I didn't share my sweet snacks quickly enough.

Methinks you are underfeeding your cats to save money.

i still say its bulls**t.  Both Tygra and Lilly (rehomed now) loved
sweets and would come begging when i was eating cookies, muffins, cake,
etc...

It is a little odd, when lots of us have known cats who liked sweet
stuff.  My RB Mikey's very favorite food was watermelon, with grapes a
close second.
