I am almost in tears as I write this, but as I was leaving to go to Mom's
(and take her a dozen +/- home-grown tomatoes), I find Bittie along the
foundation where her & Mama had been for the past couple of days - no sign
of Mama (but she was there for her am feeding). I checked on Bittie = no
movement. She's dead. DH & I have buried her near Ivy (RB).
I have no idea what happened to poor Bittie. DH & I are kicking ourselves &
each other for not grabbing Bittie the other day when we had the chance.
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. Poor little bittie who really didn't have a
lot of chance because her mother wasn't spayed and lived a feral life. It
would be just great if you could somehow catch Mamakat and I send all my

You weren't to know that something bad would happen. We can all do better
with hindsight. Which we don't have, Nancy.
The kitten had a nice meal the other day, thanks to you.
What is your feeling about her death, maybe hit by a car? or?? any idea at
all?
It's very sad.

We don't know what killed poor little Bittie. MamaKat could have slept on
top of her/him (when we moved her to bury her/him, I tried to check for
which parts s/he had, but there was way too much fur in the way - I think
her/his papa was long-hair) last night. S/he could have been killed by one
of MamaKats current suitors (which, BTW, are her sons from her litter after
the Fearsome Fousome & before Bittie). S/he could have died from flea
anemia and excessive heat (it's been in the mid-upper 90's F (32+C) the last
couple of days, with pleny of humidity). S/he was found at the back of the
house, right along side the foundation where s/he and MamaKat have been for
the last couple days (after MamaKat found out that it's much cooler in the
back yard than the front - more shade & breezes), and we could see no marks
on her/him, but his/her lips/gums were so pale, they were almost white.
I will be blessed with the last time I saw her/him was playing in the water
dish we have out for the critters - the dish was fiarly deep (water touching
the bottom of it's belly) and it was standing there with a perplexed look on
it's face - as in "what the 7734 did I get myself into" - until it finlay
figured out how to step over the sides. Sooooo cute.
Thanks to all for the purrs & candles,
Nancy (my real name, and I'm not the one from you-know-where - I live in IN,

MamaKat came back this afternoon, looking for Bittie. She was crying out
her loudest - she did this when I had the Fearsome Foursome on our front
porch, she came up to the screen/storm door and called & called (I could see
her ears peeping up over the bottom of the window). It's so heartbreaking.
Now MamaKat is looking for Bittie. Poor confused MamaKat. :(

Bittie might have had something wrong all along--you just never know.

at that age.

You weren't to know. Maybe Bittie had some disease that you wouldn't
have been able to cure anyway. I'm so sorry for what happened. Purrs for
you and DH both, and purrs that you manage to trap MamaKat so she and

Goodness only knows what happened. Chances are that it was nothing that we
mere humans could've prevented. At least Bittie knew some compassion from
SOME humans during her/his far-too-short life. That's more than some feral
cats ever experience.
