Mom and I were shopping today, and we stopped into Petco where we saw
an incredible profusion of stripey-pants kittens, and were seized
with terrible KF. It's also fun to watch the other people looking at
and interacting with the kits.
There was a large cat playpen, containing a very petite tabby momcat,
who looked like she should be chasing toy mousies herself, still
nursing two enormous behemoth kittens (I'd say about 3 months old, but
VERY healthy ;)), who had her pinned down, and were enthusiastically
kneading her, while she good-naturedly took a couple of half-hearted
swats at their heads, and settled down to wait the little monsters
out. ;)
Also looking at this spectacle was something very common where I live,
an anxious hovering yuppie mom with a very nerdy-looking
eight-year-old boy -- the dynamics here just were too obvious to miss.
The mom will probably go off to college with him and sleep in his
dorm. ;)
Now Mom and I have a not-too reverent view of motherhood in general,
so mom whispered, not so quietly, "I wonder how much longer she'll
(the momcat) will have to put up with that." We laughed, but Yuppie
Mom chided us: "Oh, it's such a WONDERFUL thing."
We smiled, but as we walked away, I rolled my eyes at my mother, who
muttered to me, "She's probably still nursing HIM." :P

It does happen! I knew a woman who was nursing, at the same time, an
8-month-old, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old - AT A PARTY! Obviously, they
took turns since she had only two breasts, but YUCK!
Hugs,

> Oh wow... that's a bit too "Last Emperor" for MY blood! Especially at a
party. I can understand nursing a child under two, but.... yech! I hope that
kid DOES manage to escape to college without his mom when the time comes.
However the kittens sound adorable! =o)

Yep, I can even see nursing a baby until the first tooth comes in, but after
that - forget it! ;>

Yes, as a rule, it's probably not a good idea to wait until they are
big enough to knock you down. :P
