Hi all.  New cat coming

I have 2 Himalayans and this week, I was browsing some pet board and
someone was giving away a Himmie.  I emailed them and found out it is
the boyfriend giving away girlfriend's cat.  She was finding a home for
this cat for a friend since she already had too many cats.  Her
boyfriend doesn't like cats at all and didn't want this Himmie around
because of all the hair.  After many emails, I told him I really
couldn't take the cat but to find it a good home and ask a fee.  Don't
give away for free.

Today he emails me that do I want the cat?  Again, I said no.  I didn't
have room for another.  He says "well, she goes to the pound this
afternoon."

I emailed back and said "No!  I'll take her."  At least I could save
her from the pound.

She is coming this weekend.  A female, 4 yr. old chocolate point
Himmie, declawed and disease free.  No issues like biting or litter box
problems.

I really don't know what I am going to do.  I only have 1 bedroom and
no spare room to keep her in.  My 2 boys are 10 and have lived together
all their lives.  I've had them since they were 8 weeks old.

Darn, I was hoping you lived closer to me.  DH loves Himmies so much I might
have had a chance of talking him into another addition to our clowder.

Where are you?  Maybe we could start a car ride with fellow cat lovers
across the states to your house.

Well, let me check with United Airlines.  I have many frequent flyer miles
and if they haven't gone bankrupt yet, maybe I could work something out.  I
will call.

Are you sure about this?

I'll need to talk to DH to see what he thinks.

I was told she gets along with other cats, has been around a chihuahua and
loved that dog.  She is shy at first, but after a week of solitude comes out
to play and be with people and pets.

I just don't have the room and my 2 boys are very demanding and I clean up
hair everyday.  I have to brush them everynight.  Also, in my condo rules,
it states that a condo owner cannot have more than 2 pets.  I have very nosy
neighbors and would constantly be scared of keeping a 3rd pet and having to
give it away later because of these rules.  Two of my neighbors have keys to
my place in case of an emergency and I just don't know.

Sorry, Yepp.  I talked to DH and he said we really can't add to the four we
already have - we are having a difficult time of it right now financially
and after Jessie's recent illness it made us realize that we need some
"padding" in case one gets really sick.  I really wish we could though.

I think with her being a pure-bred Himmie, though, you shouldn't have a
problem finding her a home locally.

You are so kind to agree to take her.  Something will work out and you will
find a home for her.  I'm a firm believer in good deeds will be rewarded.
On the other hand.. your boys might like a new friend?  Your landlord would
never know unless he is regularly on pet patrol searching your house.

Tks Tweed.  I just don't want to get attached and have to get rid of her.  I
will get attached within hours so I must make a plan.  The cat was going to
the pound and here, the pound is a shelter that kills within 7 days.  Too
many pets.

I am surprised because this is a purebred Himalayan cat, declawed and has
even won a cat show at some time in her short life.  Has a ribbon!  I still
don't know why the original owner got rid of her.  She is 4 years old.  Oh
well.  I am stressing at the moment.

I feel so sorry for her, I would take her in a minute.  Except that I live
in England..
And even if I didn't, Kitty Farmcat would give her a very hard time ;-)
Someone will come forward for her.  She's a very adoptable kitty.
Kudos to you for saving her.

It's a damn shame this happens.  But my guess is the usual.  Owners had
problems with cat, so had her declawed.  As usually happens this made her
behavior and personality worse, not better.  In all probability all she was
doing to start with was being a cat.  So now that they have already maimed
her they want to dump the responsibility on someone else.  (Jerks, creeps,
insert favorite epithet)

And in most cases she will be a nice pet for someone else.  My Aunt has two
Himalayans like this she got from a rescue group.  One has adjusted into a
pretty nice pet.  The other lives under her bed and comes out at night or
when no one is around to eat and use the litter box.  Her husband was ready
to have that one put down after it slashed him and put him in the hospital
but their vet talked them out of it.

I think I found a home for her.  Tomorrow will be the key.  A lady that has
one Himmie and wants another.  I have to check it out a little more but she
seems okay.  She lives in the same condo development as I.

This precious doll will arrive at 7:30am and I have to keep her in the
bathroom.  We will see.

Purrs the rehoming goes without a hitch. You've done a wonderful thing
in saving her.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

All my life I have heard the phrase "get rid of" in reference to pets, and
it has always made me cringe. Please, don't "get rid of" any animal, just
find it a new home. OK?

What did I tell you?  You did the right thing and it worked out and she has
a home.. Have faith. It will always work out if you do the right thing, in
the end.

Boy-cats won't usually object to a girl-cat. I hope it works out for her to
stay with you and your boys.

See if there are any breeders and/or showers of Himmies in your area.
Perhaps they have someone on a list who wants a "pet quality" Himmie, or
indeed, can show a declawed, desexed one.

Purrs for the new kitty, may his/her foreverhome turn up very quickly.

Best of luck in homing her.  I hope her new home you found works out
for her.

What a shame for people to discard pets like possessions...they are
living beings, dependent on you, like children.

I would never tolerate a partner who couldn't tolerate my pets.  Don't
like my cats?  Don't live with me.

Yeah, I'm afraid I'm the same way.  In fact I've learned to listen to my
cats' judgment of people since it seems to be better than mine!  ;>
