I have to assume that if the USA gets to see the wonderful Little
Britain they will stop referring to cats as "bitties" - it makes me
cringe every time I see that word now!

I have no idea what you're talking about, care to elaborate? What is a
bittie in the UK?

Little Britain is a TV comedy show, bittie is a combination of breast
and tittie.

Heh...it took me awhile to figure out what the Brits mean when they refer to
"his bits"! LOL.

It's only in Little Britain, the sketch where David Walliams wants to breast
feed from his mother and cries "bittie" every time he does it, yuk!

I am in the UK and I have no idea why Marcia is cringing.  Although I have
never watched Little Britain (TV series, a bit alternative) so I might agree
with her if I had, must be a word we know not the meaning of if we haven't
seen it.
Turn the TV off, girl!  who needs one when they have a computer?

There is a horse racing right now called Itty Bitty Pretty and I always
think of kittens when I see it.

I actually think I'm the one who started "bitties" around here...DP and
I started using it as a short form for "itty bitty kitties."  Because
our l'il bits weren't proper kittens when we found them.  A proper
kitten is an 8 week old ball of fluff.  These were 2-3 week old,
verminlike little...well, little bits.  The size of rodents, curled up
on their sides, eyes shut, desperately small....protocats.

Indeed you did.  It's a wonderful coinage, dopey TV shows
notwithstanding.

It's not what it refers to that makes me cringe, it's the thought of
David Walliam or whatever he's called, attempting to breast feed off
his mother in public (the guy's in his 30's). It's gross!

And his grandmother in one episode.

I said it was "alternative" didn't I?  It's not my taste, but some people
absolutely love it.

Never heard of it, unless that's the more realistic term being used now for
what once was Great Britain.
