KittyLady - 20 Jul 2005 16:19 GMT I caught myself sings this Saturday and would like to share.
It Goes to the tune of Doggie in the Window (I think)
Where oh where have my keys gone. Oh where oh where could they be?
I've been looking near and far and those keys I do not see!
Oh there Oh there Oh there they are! Seems Bob Marley has stolen them from me!
(end embarassing song)
For singing said song I was properly punished with a boop on the lips by Harvey!
Skritches, KittyLady and Harvey who hates singing and Bob Marley who has probley stolen something else by now.

LOL! Everything I've read about ferrets tells me you are going to have to keep him properly entertained with lots of toys. They are inquisitive and require a lot of attention.

Hours of fun.

Sometimes they would bounce around doing the "I am fierce, see my arched back" with their tails fluffed out like bottle brushes, so funny!
They liked to go down long cardboard tubes and hide themselves inside a pillowcase and roll around in it. They must be supervised for this last one though. You can take them for a walk on a harness too and "sort of" housetrain them. They are really great fun to have around. Try giving Bob Marley a small roadkill bird and see what he thinks of it. It's good for them. I could often be seen leaping out of my car to pick up a roadkill bird or rabbit etc for my ferrets ;-) Fresh, of course. Do keep an eye on his food store to make sure it doesn't go off, ferrets will remove their food if fed in a dish and cache it, usually near where they sleep. Like I said, I will share my knowledge with you if you need it. I think you will have lots of fun with him.
Tweed P.S. Is he neutered or does he have that particular "only a ferret smells like this" aroma?

Yes he has been neutered and descented. This was done when he was a wee thing according to my husbands grandpa. But he still has a bit of odor to him but not much. Did your ferrets swim in the tub?

I can't see why they would. What cat owner wouldn't like to know about ferrets, more like cats than cats!

I thought he was fighting me because of the bath, but he wanted loose. So I turned him loose and he went to swimming. Strange I thought. Skritches, KittyLady

Oh yes, that cracks me up! They sound so determined. We had a neighbor with ferrets awhile ago. I used to love the way they would sort of *flow* down the stairs. I remember one day, they had the front door open for some reason, and Ricky and Wendy the ferrets came charging out to the porch, and I heard a voice inside yell, "WHERE ARE YOU GOING YOU MANIACS??!!" and all in one very smooth motion, without even stopping or changing speed, they just pivoted around, and went right back inside. ;) They are very funny critters. It was also fun to see how they danced around, welcoming their slaves home.

Karen - 20 Jul 2005 19:57 GMT The only ferret I've ever been around was in a small room and at night she would shove her litter box from one end of her kennel to another. I really didn't get to know her. They sound interesting.

I really didn't get to know her. They sound interesting. When I was a teenager my mom was hanging wash on a clothesline on the back patio. She came running inside, terrified and frantic. "There's a strange animal out there!" I looked... it was a ferret, just checking things out. Then here comes a little boy, about 7 years old, "Have you seen my ferret? His name is Oscar." Yeah, he's over there by the shirt my mom dropped on the ground. LOL

LOL Years ago, before I was adopted by cats, my cockatiel was in the kitchen taking bathing in the pie plate I kept on top of the fridge for that purpose. She freaked about something, and flew into the living room to her cage. (Before I got her she had broken a wing, which never healed properly, so though she could fly she couldn't gain altitude. Which is why I put the pie plate on the fridge, she could sort of glide to her cage with no problem.) I went to investigate, and saw what looked like a rat's nose sticking out from under the kitchen cabinet. About that time a knock came on the door, the neighbors couldn't find their new ferret. Seems there was an opening for the pipes under the kitchen sinks, shared by the same wall in the two apartments, and the ferret had discovered it and made his way from their kitchen into mine.

Couldn't resist commenting! My hubby was out on the back stoop having a last cigarette late one winter evening when I hear him yelling about "something's out here!". I go running out and discover the sweetest young ferret bouncing around and chittering, to his alarm. Well, I fell head over heels and she became the first of several I went on to adopt. My kitties tolerated them as they would something lower on the totem pole but not low enough to eat! Actually, I think my dh was pretty much the same. ;) PatM

They are considered "wild" animals. Our previous mayor, the not-so-lovable Giuliani, had them banned. There was a huge outcry from the ferret slaves of the area, but to no avail. I remember on his weekly radio show, when somebody tried to confront Giuliani about the ridiculousness of the ferret ban, Giuliani told him he needed "psychiatric help" to understand his "obsession with vermin."
Nice guy, huh? Remember that when he runs for President. :P

KittyLady - 20 Jul 2005 17:29 GMT > Do ferrets have a mothership, too? ;0 > > I think the tune is "Oh Where, Oh Where has my Little Dog Gone"? You are right I did have the wrong tune. Silly Me. They are so cat like I think they might. Either that or Harvey has recieved transmission from the mothership about training him to what he wants.
