A bit of good news from our revered (?) health authorities (or not):
Announced on tv yesterday: eating a bit of DARK (not milk) chocolate
contributes to lowering blood pressure (not noted how much either chocolate
nor b.p. lowering). I intend to take advantage of this blurt 411 from our
CDC, FDA or whatever until further notice. Bye bye atenolol hello Dove (just
LOL)......

I recommend Lindt 85% cocoa solids dark chocolate - it is an intense
chocolate hit and only a little goes a long way.

I didn't know that, I had a feeling it was good, because my body craves
it sometimes.
it just so happens dark is my chocolate of choice.
In large quantities, it is chemically no different than having sex.

I took note of that! It's in yesterdays NYT Science Times and they said
that any flavinoid will do the trick. What they're saying is the less
milk chocolate the better, so richer darkstuff is better than the major
US brands. That's what I'm going for anyway :-d Norm

And apparently Dove, I have read, specifically formulates their dark
chocolate to be as rich as possible in this.

People mentioning Dove in the context of food makes my taste buds go all
funny - over here it's a brand of soap :-)

Here too. But once you taste Dove chocolate, you never associate it any
other way :)

I don't think Dove chocolate is available here in Canada. I went to
it homepage and the store locator won't work with locations outside
U.S.

Salt is implicated in high blood pressure, or rather sodium. I now use a
low sodium alternative and I soon realised that I didn't need to cook my
veggies with salt in the water, like carrots and such and don't even use the
alternative, it takes only a while like giving up sugar in tea/coffee..
Boiled potatoes taste strange without salt so I use the low sodium
alternative now.
I don't eat chocolate at all. I used to, but I have lost the taste for it.
I subscribe to two glasses of red wine a day is good for your heart.

Have you ever tried lemon juice on your potatoes? IMHO very good. MLB

Seems lemon juice are good on quite a few things: tea, water, seafood,
chicken.... the list goes on. I always keep some lemons in the fridge.

Funny, how tastes differ! I NEVER add salt to boiled
potatoes (and very little to other vegetables)! I also eat
hard-boiled eggs without salt - always have, nothing to do
with my blood pressure.

Same here. I only use herbs for seasoning. Salt is only used for gargling
when I have a sore throat. Even with a family history of high blood
pressure, my blood pressure is just fine.

I never add salt to anything and have not done so for years. Vernon has had
high blood pressure since his late teens (family history of it so I think
it's highly likely there's a genetic link at work) and as soon as we got
together I've had him on a not adding salt to anything diet as there's more
than enough salt in processed foods these days and I've had him on skimmed
milk for years too. As a result, Nathan has grown up this way and he's as
fit as a lop, so to speak :-)

Few things I enjoy more than bitter unsweetened chocolate. Unfortunately I
am allergic!!

The Phase I trial at the National Institutes of Health is apparently
still recruiting subjects:

I dunno, Howard.....that test eating/drinking doesn't sound like much
fun.....and to top that, the ultrasound after sounds far worse (bilateral
brachial artery lines?) than the "echo" I had (big tickle) post-M.I. (no
i.v.'s involved). Where did it (description) say they were gonna sample
"goodies"? It didn't.....the media always screws stuff up.

I heard about that some time a year or two ago, maybe the Reader's
Digest? When we get a box of chocolates, I am very fortunate my son
prefers the milk chocolate and leaves all the dark chocolate to me.
Now I am hooked on Hersheys Dark Chocolate Nuggets with Almonds. YUM!
