How do they do it?
If Scott and I are going away for the weekend to my parents, we always
take the girls with us. They travel well, and treat my parents house
as their second home.
We also sometimes go away elsewhere, leaving them at home, with a
friend popping in to feed them.
When we are going away to my parents, or on a long holiday when they go
to a local cattery they know.
We don't have to have started packing - nothing has been got out - no
sign of their cat boxes etc. - all we've done is mention that we are
going. And they are all hiding when we get home on the day we are
heading off.
However, if we are going away and leaving them at the house, they don't
hide, and even help us pack (getting in the bags, putting white and
ginger hairs on all the clean black clothing etc).
How do they know? Do they hear us saying about Simon popping in to
feed them, so they don't bother hiding.
Incidently, once retrieved from their hiding places, and in their boxes
they are quite happy.

Persia always knows when I'm going to go somewhere. I have been doing a lot
of travelling so I just leave the suitcase out (and the carrier in plain
sight). But she picks up on *something* the day I'm going to take her to be
boarded and hides. It's uncanny!
