Hi folks,

we were planning for quite some years to let our cats out in the garden.
This year it finally happened. We got a fence around the garden (1.685 m²).
It is 2m high and has 45° angled edges on top.

When we let the cats out for the first time, we had a lot of fun. They had
a small (3 x 3 m) outside run before, so they all ran out and stopped at
the former boarder of the 3 x 3m outside run and sat down. Then they
realized, that there was no longer a net to prevent them from going
further. Suddenly we had a bunch of 5 cm high and 50 cm long cats carefully
examining their new territory:-)

Now we can sit on the terrace and watch the cats play outside. It is so
much fun to see them chase each other, jump and run without sliding all the
time (inside we have a parquet floor).

As soon as I processed all the pics we took, I will give you a link to
share:-)

Oh how cool!! Your kitties are so lucky. I laughed at your saying you
suddenly had a bunch of 5 cm tall 50 cm long cats :)  I can't wait for pics.

Inge, these photos are so wonderful and your beautiful cats look very happy!
I'm going to show these to DH and my kids.  How long did it take to make
your enclosure?  Did you do it yourselves?
Thanks so much for posting these!

We were planning the enclosure for about 5 years. We wanted a professional
company build the fence. So we saved some money and this year it finally
happened:-)

We didn't use our beautiful garden for 5 years, because we couldn't stand
sitting on the terrace and see our cats sitting at the windows inside with
big and sad eyes watching us.

Now we can go out together and have fun sitting on the terrace or playing
badminton:-) Tientje likes us playing badminton. He watches the ball and
when it falls to the ground, he catches and kills it:-)

The cats enter Al-cat-raz through a cat-flap which is build in one of the
livingroom windows.

Actually you are right *g*, but we chose the name for it because its an
island with almost no chance of escape:-)) The big advantage of it is, that
we don't have to worry anymore that the cats could be hit by a car or walk
with someone passing by:-)

that is true:-) You should see the cats when the birds enter the garden.
Suddenly you see a bunch of white, flat spots in the grass, motionless
except the tips of their tails, whipping in excitement.

Fortunately for the birds they are no experienced hunters as Tientje and
She are, so we had no victims until now.

thank you for your kind wishes:-) Except Tientje and She all the other cats
are under 10 years old (most of them are 4), so the chance that your wish
comes true is really big:-))

Please give Lily some extra-scritches from me:-)

Wow! These pics just emphasize how close domesticated cats are to
their wild cousins -- by posture you'd think they could be lions in a
zoo!
