Mischief - 17 Jul 2005 02:42 GMT
I've hijacked Mama Kristi's computer so I can tell you about my
horrible experience today.

It started like every other morning.  I heard Mama Kristi stirring, but
I couldn't go wake her up because of the new cat.  I think her name is
Mayhem or something, but she's scary.  She always is chasing me away
and hissing at me.  She's taken over the job of watching over Mama
Kristi.  Mischief is especially sore at this.

Anyway, Mama Kristi finally got up and she started to feed us.  I was
happily munching away on my breakfast when suddenly she picked me up.
Huh?  What was she doing?  oh NO!!!!  It's the CAT CARRIER!!!!!  PUT ME
DOWN!!! HELP!!!!!!

I struggled but I couldn't escape and ended up in the box with only
holes to see out of.  I tried to fight my way out, but I failed at that
too.  Then meowmie picked me up and we went for a ride.  I was really
really scared, because there's only one place we go when we go for
rides.

she opened the box and I thought I was free, but NO!!  I was....it
couldn't be.....

I was at TED!!!!!!!  I was put into a cage and given water and the rest
of my breakfast but I was so scared I couldn't eat.  I tried to curl up
into a tight ball.  Maybe if I curled up tight enough, they wouldn't
see me.

Hours later, Mama Kristi came and brought me out and clipped every one
of my precious claws!!  And then she began BRUSHING ME!!!  She was
pulling out all my beautiful fur!  When she stopped there was a huge
pile of my fur on the table.  And then it got even WORSE!!!

She.....she.....(chokes)..it's so horrible i can't say it.....
she...... put me in a tub and...........and drenched me with
WATER!!!!!!!!

Oh the HORRORS!!!!!!!  She kept rubbing me all over with soap and
telling me about how pretty I was going to be.  It was SO
HUMILIATING!!!!  More of my fur kept falling off and clogging the
drain.  Would I have any fur left?  When she FINALLY was done, I was
roughly rubbed with a towel and then put back into the cage.  Then this
big box hooked up to the cage door was turned on and blasted me with
hot air.

After more hours, I was pulled out and brushed again.  Then it was back
into the box and back into the car.

It was such a horrible horrible experience I hope I never EVER have to
go through it again!  I'm going to have kitty nightmares for WEEKS!!!

Sincerely,

Imp

Hoomin note:  Imp is so skittish I hardly get to brush him, so a TON of
fur just kept coming off with each brushing.  He still is shedding, but
before he looked like he had a very bad case of dandruff.  Now he's all
sleek black and clean.  When he came home he slunk off to his hiding
place, and gave me the look of death.  But I placated him.

I gave him his favorite Crunchy Tuna treats.  I gave him a bowl of food
garnished with a lot of treats and he came out and scarfed them down.
Then he walked away licking his lips with a semi-satisfied look.

He's much better now, but I know he was quite freaked out at getting
bathed.  but at least a lot of the dander is off of him now.

Don't tell him, but in two weeks when I go visit my family, Imp,
Mischief and Mayhem will be boarding and ALL of them are going to have
baths.

take care,

Kristi

LOL too funny!

The first time I put my cat Peepers in a carrier everything was fine til we
hit the outside, then he broke the door open, this was a very sturdy
carrier.  He jumped out and my heart failed, but as soon as he realized he
was on the outside and not attached to me somehow he started yowling to get
back in the carrier.  He's gone through two carriers, both were the hard
plastic kind with the metal doors. Now he has a material one that looks like
a gym bad, works great.

Our first cat, Sam lived to a ripe old age.  In more ways than one.  For
whatever reason, when he was about fourteen, he pretty much quit grooming.
Probably either sinus or tooth problems.  But I was extremely glad I'd got
him in the habit of tolerating baths when he was a kitten.  He was such a
good ole boy about it too.  Didn't like the bath but did know how good he
looked and smelled once it was done.

I bought some Kitty Bath Wipes when we first adopted Captain and Stanley.

Both of them had a bit of, ummmm, feline scent to them when we brought
them home from the shelter. I'm not entirely sure what caused that. But
probably being active kittens in a small shelter cage means that they
played in or too-close-to the litterbox.

Anyway, neither of them particularly minded the kitty bath wipes. So I'd
definitely recommend them as a possible solution for someone who doesn't
think their cat would tolerate a bath very well.

P.S... there are also anti-allergy kitty bath wipes on the market. Has
anyone tried them? I know that we have some cat-allergic people here, who
willingly deal with allergy symptoms as part of the price of having
felines in the family. But if the anti-allergy wipes help to reduce the
allergy problems, let us know. :o)

<waving hands>  Me - my third worst allergy is to cats (third only because
honey bee stings and eating oysters would kill me in a couple of minutes and
cats only make me very, very ill).  I haven't tried the allergy wipes - I
didn't know they made them.  I just takes tons and tons of antihistamines.
I have a DH who has selective blindness when it comes to dirt, dust, or
underwear dropped on the bathroom floor, so vacuuming and dusting don't help
'cause I'm the one who has to do it (emptying a vacuum and having the dust
fly up into my face will put me in bed for a day or two).

Hugs,

My allergist told me to wear a mask when dusting and vacuuming.
When I had a job, I hired a cleaning lady. But not anymore.
At least I am not allergic to cats.

Poor Imp!  Tell him, Omar, commiserates, as he's been at TED's a lot lately
and gotten pricked and poked.
