I know intregration sometimes takes time, but yesterday was
discouraging. At times it seemed like we were right back at the
beginning - no one was getting along. Spotty chased LB two or three
times. I give her a time out in the bathroom for 10-15 minutes each
time, and when I let her out she'd take out after LB a half hour
later. Sammy wasn't any better. For the first time she ignored me
completely when I told her to leave Spot alone. She had Spot cornered
in the kitchen, and wouldn't leave Spot alone when I told her to. I
made it from the other room before they got into an actual fight, but
some major swearing went on, and for the first time in a LONG time
Sammy found herself in the bathroom for a time out.
Don't know what happened today while I was out mowing. It seems they
must have talked things over through the crack under the door and
decided to call a truce. I came in today and opened the bedroom door
so they could see each other like I've been doing whenever I come in.
Spotty trotted over to Sammy, they touched noses, looked at each other
for a few seconds, and then ... the most amazing thing happened.
Spotty gave Sammy a lick on her neck, Sammy nuzzled Spot's ear, and
they actually started grooming each other. Didn't last very long, but
there's been NO hissing at all between them today.
Spotty and LB have both been in the living room for the past half hour
- and just one hiss from LB. Normally LB has been leaving the room as
soon as Spot enters unless LB is in of her favorite spots. The one
time LB hissed today it wasn't much different than when she sometimes
hisses at her daughter. Spot was playing with the turbo scratcher,
looked up at LB who was laying on the floor watching from about 6 six
away. LB gave the type hiss she sometimes gives when Sammy wants her
to play and LB doesn't want to be bothered. Most times Sammy ignores
that type of hiss and starts a wrestling match anyway, but Spotty just
went to playing with the scratcher.
Anyway, things are definitely looking calmer today ;-) As I've been
typing this LB came over and laid down next to my feet, and stayed
there even when Spot came down and laid on down a couple feet away.
Yep, things are looking up ;-)))

Well, apparently all that rigamarole yesterday cleared the air a bit!
Funniest thing just happened here. Sugar dashed playfully after Pearl. Iv'e
never seen her do THAT before. Pearl used a handy scratching pole to
"attack". It's so funny that they won't play directly WITH each other but
kind of "around" each other.

Maybe they just needed to establish some sort of kitty dominance
thing? Glad they're getting along now.

You obviously handled things correctly, Steve. Glad to hear you're making
progress. Just try and remember, one step forward, two steps back...we
still have this in our house with Tucker and Midnight and Omar, but we're
making progress still, too.

Yeah, I have to remind of that somedays ;-) I really think that part
of the problem between LB and Spotty is that they are still learning
each other's body language. Spotty is still a youngster and wants to
play, and doesn't seem to realise that LB doesn't. And LB remembers
when Spotty was serious about defending the food, and gets defensive
as soon as she sees Spotty approaching. The good news that for the
past coouple nights I've left the bedroom door open, and awoke in the
mroning to find them both sharing the bed with me - though LB has
switched to the far side of the bed from her normal place on my left
side, since Spot prefers to sleep at the foot of the bed on the left
side.
