Worst cat names ever (and why)

Debra - 15 Jul 2005 17:44 GMT Top of the list has to be Trouble.
I didn't give Trouble her name. Hubby did. Or maybe she gave it to herself. She certainly earned it. The night we found her it took about two hours to catch her, one hour to research how to make kitten formula, another hour to go to a store for ingredients, mix it, and feed her. Lost four hours of sleep that night. The next morning Hubby informed me than her name was Trouble and that she already answered to it. The worst part is that she has lived up to that name ever since and I think that will continue for the rest of her life. Trouble is four years old but she has never grown up. She is still a mean little hard headed kitten. The thing that saves her is that she still has her kitten face. She's just too cute to get mad at. Debra in VA

Enfilade - 15 Jul 2005 19:34 GMT Our bitties got names in a similar manner. They were found in a trash pile at 3 weeks of age. Their names are Kumani and Tyche. Kumani is an African word for "Destiny" while Tyche is a Greek Goddess of Luck and Chance.
Therefore, our finding them was either fated (Kumani) or a twist of luck (Tyche).

Enfilade - 15 Jul 2005 19:36 GMT I forgot to add: Smokey is on my list of worst cat names ever on account of there are SO MANY Smokeys out there.
And we have a Smokey, not because I wanted to call him that, but because he'd been previously named that by the entire military base security operations staff who domesticated him and he answered to it by the time I took him home. TO this day they inquire after Smokey. He's such a hoser, he couldn't possibly be anything other than Smokey.
(He got that name due to hanging out in the smoking pit. He's had to quit secondhand smoking since living with me.)

A great cat.
Lulu. When I adopted her I changed her name immediately to Loos. The idea of telling *anyone* my cats name was Lulu was unthinkable, heh.

One of my aunt's cats was called Scratchy Boy and he lived up to it well and truly... I loved him and he was a beautiful cat, but he wasn't very keen on being played with by relatives...

He was allowed in the garden by my fierce old girl Kitty Farmcat, which is a fairly sure sign he must be some sort of boyfriend, as she just hates any other cats in her territory. So he was nicknamed "Boyfriend." When it became obvious that he was lost and he eventually moved in he stayed Boyfriend. I tried to rename him Gideon, nope, didn't work at all.

Tygra's name suits her well, she is stripey and elusive...

Her previous owner wanted to WHAT? DISPOSE of her? For being a black cat?
I hope that person breaks a mirror while walking under a ladder on Friday the 13th.
I like your new name for her, AND your attitude toward her, waaaay better.

For being a black cat? Yes. Holly is the offspring of a purebred Oriental shorthair and a purebred Persian. A local breeder (to use that term loosely) wanted to develop a cat with very specific characteristics. One characteristic that she was looking for was color -- she wanted dusty gray, and Holly is solid black. As a result, Holly was going to be euthanized. Fortunately, a woman who works in a local pet supply store talked the breeder into letting her foster Holly and try to find a home for her. She kept Holly for several months, and I walked into the store shortly after Amber had died. I wanted to adopt a cat and had first gone to the animal shelter. However, they were closed because it was the day after Thanksgiving. Next I checked this pet store. They sold only supplies, no pets; but they did sometimes have cats or kittens that people had dropped off for adoption. The cages were empty when I checked, but I got into a conversation with the clerk who was fostering Holly...and that led to a home for Holly and a wonderful companion for me. Holly was about 6 months old at the time (in 1995). Incidentally, I knew that this woman did not have a very good income and she had mentioned that it was difficult to keep Holly along with her two personal pets. So, I returned a couple of weeks later and gave the woman a check for $100.00. She was so happy she almost cried, but I told her that Holly was well worth it to me and I would have expected to pay close to that amount if I had adopted from the animal shelter.

She's just too cute to get mad at. > Debra in VA Something of a tangent, but my friend named one of her German Shepherds Dierdre which MEANS trouble. Dierdre had all sorts of behavior problems, including an inability to get along with Vee's senior German Shepherd. She dug in the yard, tormented the cats, etc etc. When Vee would tell me how difficult Dierdre was, I said "Why did you give her a name that meant "trouble"???"

Imp Mischief Mayhem
All three are aptly named, so I don't think I need to say anymore.

Mary - 16 Jul 2005 02:11 GMT > The names of my cats are: > > Imp > Mischief > Mayhem They're perfectly nice cat names.
Jane - 21 Jul 2005 16:32 GMT Rita is named Rita because that's the name she came with. The Princess part is my addition because she's such a ruler.
Orca(t) is a black and white, so he was named after the Orca whale, but since he's a cat, he's Orca(t). get it? lol
Spot's full name Thurmont Spotlight something or other, and it's a big baby huey white cat, so he's just a big SPOT. His mommy kept trying to rename him, but I love the idea of a cat named Spot.
Fin (RB) was named Fin because when he first found me, he was a 'tossed cat' and so thin that he looked like a dorsal fin when he meatloafed. Hence, the name Fin. He looked NOTHING like a dorsal fin within weeks, though.
Jane - owned and operated by Princess Rita, Orca(t), and Spot.
Paul Olson - 21 Jul 2005 16:58 GMT My favorite alcoholic drink is Bacardi Rum and Diet Coca-Cola. So, when I got two teensy tiny little tabby kittens three years ago, it made perfect sense to name them "Rum" and "Coke."
cathyxyz - 21 Jul 2005 19:35 GMT > My favorite alcoholic drink is Bacardi Rum and Diet Coca-Cola. So, when > I got two teensy tiny little tabby kittens three years ago, it made > perfect sense to name them "Rum" and "Coke." How funny. My son named his cat Bacardi (cos his girlfriend liked the drink), but now we just call her Cardi-cat.
Our cats are Sox and Shoes... Sox came first - a stray - he has white paws, so it sort of makes sense... Then along came "the other cat" - another stray.... He invited himself into the house and after a few weeks we decided we had better have him "fixed" too, if we wanted to keep him. So, on the way to the vet with said cat, DH phones me on his cell and asks me what are we going to officially name this kitty, cos the vet will want to know... I was clueless. Anyway, DH suggested Shoes (because this kitty does *not* have white paws) and I agreed. We get a laugh every time someone asks us what our cats' names are. :)
Cheers Cathy

She's just too cute to get mad at. > Debra in VA Well, they're not *bad* names, but I chuckle everytime I think about my daughter telling me about her cats straying away. They're house cats, and having a new house, they haven't built an enclosure yet. So they let them outdoors supervised in the evenings. She said they got busy gardening, and all three sneaked away. They went all through the subdivison calling them. What I chuckle about this the probability that the other residents think their new neighbors have three children named "Ernie," "Dexter" and "Tommy."

Lesley - 20 Jul 2005 12:44 GMT I chuckle about this the probability
> that the other residents think their new neighbors have three children > named "Ernie," "Dexter" and "Tommy." I know someone who named their cat "Poofta" so they could stand outside of an evening and call the cat in to the immense embarrassment of several hundred commuters who had to walk that way after leaving the station! I am still amazed no-one hit them for it!
