Post birthday blahs (partly OT)

The way the year's been going, I figured it wasn't going to be an
altogether great day.  But I didn't expect that the first thing that
happened would be yet another tooth breaking off :-(  Greaaaatttt.
And because I needed time to get over the trauma of the colonoscopy, I
asked for the dental work to be rescheduled, and they refused to do
it.  So now I am at the back of the list.  Since I started this, three
years ago, I think, two of the teeth they are to pull have broken off,
and another has developed a serious hole.  I am starting to think I
should just get them *all* pulled and get dentures.  This is getting
ridiculous.

So, I am upset, but I go out in the rain with my $30 in birthday
money.  Have to pay my P.O. Box fee first, then I'm going to drop off
the cameras from the party to be developed.  Only one problem:  their
equipment is down.  Of course.  So I get back on another bus, and go
to another CVS and drop them off there.

I go get my CDs, and while walking back to pick up the photos, several
idiots drive really fast in the close lane filled with rain (probably
on purpose), and get me soaked on my left side.  Thanks a lot, you
morons.

I do a couple of other errands (like pick up cat food -- GOTTA have
cat food!) and go home.  And my CD player won't play 3 of the 4 CDs I
just bought.  Sigh.

Well, I rented a couple of videos -- "Cold Mountain" and "The
Village".  Wanted to watch "Cold Mountain" on my b-day, and save the
other for tonight.  Put in the movie, and it won't play.  #$%$%^&**

I am so upset by this time, DH says he'll run down (on foot) to the
video store and get another copy.  He does, but they don't have any
other copies -- they try to clean the DVD.  When he gets back, we try
again.  It works.  Sort of.  Lots of spots where it jumps and spurts
and whatever so it ruins the enjoyment.

I did get a nice "Happy Birthday" call from Julie (waving!  Thanks,
Julie!), a lovely "Birthday Box" from my dear friend KK in Indiana, a
couple of other calls and a funny card.

One of the things KK sent me was a gorgeous down-stuffed pillow.
Wolfie decided, of course, that since *he* is the most beautiful cat,
it was only fitting that he be the one to sit on it.  Later, after I
got back, I cracked up because someone had placed a little catnip
pillow on top of the other pillow.  Too funny.

And I have to remember last year.  This year was bad, but not as bad
as last year, when I rescued Arthur.  Most of you may remember that
nightmare.

So yesterday was also Arthur's anniversary of coming to live with us.
And he is one wonderful birthday present!  I kissed him and told him
"Happy Anniversary!" and he snuggled me back.

Next year *will* be better!

Well, Happy Birthday anyway, and next year *will* be better!
Let me know how you like "Cold Mountain." I thought it was horribly
depressing in a lot of ways, although Rene Zellwiger's performance
certainly made it worth watching!
You have the same birthday as my sister. She's having "grown children
troubles" and all that entails, this year. I cross-stitched her a
kitchen towel with a mama hen & chicks on it, then embroidered "Raising
Children is Like Being Pecked to Death by Chickens." You gotta find a
*little bit* of humor in everything! It's how we all survive.

I'm still mildly mystified, unless it is simple order as listed in the
credits, how she got the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She
dominated the screen.

It wasn't at all what I had expected -- I had the impression it was
mostly historical, about the Battle of Petersburg ("Battle of the
Crater"). That part wasn't historically great, but the rest made up for
it. Good movie for a date!

I thought "Cold Mountain" was excellent.  Beautifully photographed and
acted, very intense.  And Rene was just a total hoot!

Hope you rsister liked her kitchen towel :-)

If it's any consolation (I know it's not, but this is such a coincidence),
John has been searching high and low for the sound track to Cold Mountain
for *my* birthday at the end of the month!  (It's what I asked for.)  He
couldn't find it in Cleveland but he called from a "record shop" (do they
still call them that?!) up in Rochester where he's visiting his mom to ask
if I had certain other CD's so I gather by his silence about Cold Mountain
he found that particular CD.

Oh, I hope he found it for you!  I loved the music in it.  I still
call 'em "record stores", which gives away my age -- lol!  I'd like to
know when girdles became body shapers, too!

LOL you really don't want to know.  At least they aren't made of all rubber
like the Playtex girdle of the 1950's and 60's :)

(chuckle)  Glad to see you've still got some sense of humor.
Hey! You and Tweed need to get T-shirts made up:
"I whined on RPCA"  :)

In that case, a bunch of us (especially me) need to get whining T-shirts.

Pam S. who has visions of wearing a t-shirt that whines and moans :-)

lol to both Wayne and Pam!

Yeah, you gotta have a sense of humor.  One of my favorite poems is
from Dorothy Parker, and goes

"Razors pain you
Rivers are damp
Acids stain you
And drugs cause cramp

Guns aren't lawful
Nooses give
Gas smells awful --
You might as well live!"

That's my philosophy, at least!

LOL, I'd totally forgot that poem.  I think it has all the options covered.
I love it too.

Reminds me of this:  "I was complaining about life and a friend told me to
cheer up that things could be worse.  So I cheered up and things got
worse!"

Nah, mine needs to say "whimpered"

Was that the word?  Hmmm... <brightens>  Well, perhaps we can
persuade Ginger-lyn to go for "whimpered" too.

How about a choice?  "I a) whined b) whimpered c) whinged d) lost it
completely on RPCA"?  ;-)

Oof!  One thing after another!  Of course I sympathize greatly with
your tooth problems; how awful for you!  I don't understand this
dental list thing, but it seems like breaking a tooth would be cause
for hurry ...

Some birthdays just don't bear thinking about =/
