KaN - 14 Jul 2005 12:56 GMT Hi all. I've been lurking for a long, long time and would like to join in, if you'll have me.
My name is Karen and I'm the proud companion to 9 cats and a dog who thinks she's a cat. Number 10 has possibly just arrived (he hasn't shown up for his morning meal today). We've had a number of kitty illness (heartworm, asthma, kidney problems, tumor) but *knock wood* everybody seems to be doing fine just now. Hubby sat all the cats down and told them they 'had to stay healthy' for awhile *lol*!
You should know that my life is extremely busy just now...I will most likely not be able to post on a regular basis...but will pop in every now and then to see how everyone is doing.
Have a great day, Karen

Your Fabulous Furballs have lovely names as well....very unusual. Would Redunzel and Sarrasine be female or male?

Nice to meet you!
KaN - 14 Jul 2005 14:38 GMT Your cats are adorable! Great photos! My Lancelot looks just like your Tennessee Tuxedo.
mlabofski@yahoo.co.uk - 14 Jul 2005 15:20 GMT Tennessee Tuxedo looks like another Otis (of London) clone, does he have the white bit on his neck? I wonder where they come from, they do seem to travel all over the world, our black cats with white bits under the chin - I've seen them in Spain too.
KaN - 14 Jul 2005 16:02 GMT Hi! Yes, there does seem to be a lot of that type of kitty...but each are unique in some way, I'm sure.
Nice to meet you.
Magic Mood Jeep© - 14 Jul 2005 16:46 GMT > Tennessee Tuxedo looks like another Otis (of London) clone, does he > have the white bit on his neck? I wonder where they come from, they > do seem to travel all over the world, our black cats with white bits > under the chin - I've seen them in Spain too. Tennnessee was born in a barn a county west of where I live. He's black, with a white spot on his neck (right at his purr-box) that makes his 'bow tie', and a larger white post on his belly, about the size of a US dollar coin (the older ones, not the newer ones) that makes his 'cummerbund'. And yes, he was named after the cartoon character (the penquin, voiced by Don Adams, that hung around with a walrus named Chumley). He has a smattering of white throughout his blackness as well. In particular is a single white hair just to the left of center, between his eyes on his forehead.
Tennessee has several nicknames: Buckethead, Big Ol' Buckethead Buddy Boy, Fat@$$, FatB@$t@rd, Lord Lard, Cartman (as in Eric Cartman, the fat kid on South Park), and a bunch of others I can't remember right now, but probably will in about 3 hours :)

KaN - 14 Jul 2005 15:16 GMT Hello Victor...always nice to meet another cat lover!
Yup...that's why I always lurk first! I tend to avoid heated discussion anyway...right or wrong, it's just my nature.
KaN - 14 Jul 2005 15:24 GMT I'd also like to say that it was the recipes that finally convinced me to post *smile*!

I love your site...I've just now looked at the 'brandy' section but, as soon as I fix myself lunch will check out the rest. Ahhh, don't you just love a "day off" from all the stress of a normal day? It's nice to be able to check out other people's fur families!
KaN - 14 Jul 2005 16:31 GMT And I of course meant Bandit! Where in the world did I get the name Brandy???? Must be faint from hunger...lol!!!! My apology to Bandit!
I also have to ask...your cat motel...did you build it? I love it...and am going to add it to my husband's 'honey do' list.

Be warned (but since you're a lurker you already know), this is a very prolific bunch of posters! (me included). Please ignore those who are coming over from another group trying to stir up trouble. Also note, we react to trolls and spammers by posting recipes, which gets to be quite fun at times :)
Can't wait to hear about your kitties! I'm owned by Persia, a (probably) 6 year old domestic shorthair who so resembles a Russian Blue I have to think she's at least half that. I also have a 2-1/2 year old lovebird, Peaches. And no, they don't pay any attention to each other but I also don't let them interact.

KaN - 14 Jul 2005 16:21 GMT Hello Jill, Persia, and Peaches! Its nice to be here. Actually, the reason I started posting is BECAUSE of the recipes (a very unique way of dealing with troll imo). I especially like vegetable recipes (we eat very little meat)...and just loved the asparagus au gratin recently posted. I'm almost wishing for another troll to get more goodies...lol!
You can probably tell I'm hungry...well, time to go fix lunch *smile*!
jmcquown - 14 Jul 2005 16:45 GMT > Hello Jill, Persia, and Peaches! Its nice to be here. Sometimes we *request* a regular on the group act like a troll just so we can post a recipe! The asparagus au gratin post was mine <G> It's delicious. Asparagus is also great on the grill brushed with a little olive oil and simply seasoned with a little salt & pepper, about 5 minutes for a bunch. You need a grill basket or some slotted grill foil, though, to prevent the spears from falling through the grate.
Someone here (Theresa?) once wondered if, on the cooking ng's, when they are trolled do they talk about cats? LOL

KaN - 14 Jul 2005 17:15 GMT *lol* (re: food group)
You know I've never tried fresh asparagus before...which is strange because I eat plenty of the canned type....and I know how much better fresh is over canned. I'm learning a lot here!
I'll have to request a troll later. We (NE Florida) are in our season of afternoon thunderstorms so I expect I'll have to shut down soon *sigh*. That's why I'm on this morning....very unusual for me...I'm usually on in the afternoons. BUT I've missed so much computer time that I was having withdrawal symptoms and am now getting my 'fix' LOL!

KaN - 14 Jul 2005 17:19 GMT Thanks for the heads up...I would have missed it!
Looks great! I love artichoke and shrimp and crab. Although we eat little meat we do eat loads of shrimp...and occasionally crab. I've saved it to try later..thanks again.

Karen, it might help if you quote some (not necessarily all) of the relevent text to which you are replying. Some folks (I gather) have news readers that don't display things necessarily in order and they will have a hard time knowing what you are replying to otherwise. Thanks!

Debra Berry - 14 Jul 2005 16:27 GMT Hi Karen,
Welcome to rpca. We make an effort to be kind to each other, although a troll wanders in every so often. Those with good recipes BBQ them. Sounds like you have your hands full with furrballs :-). I have 4 cats of my own, all girls - Daisy, Anna, Sabrina, and Patty, and three foster cats right now - Olga (adult), Lily and Lucy (kittens). Look forward to your posts.

[quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > > Have a great day, Karen Hello and welcome for my part, Karen. With a "family" like that I'd say your cat-loving credentials are sterling. =o) I laughed at the vision of your husband sitting the cats down for a family meeting and telling them all to stay healthy. I hope they follow his advice.
My owners are Panther, a 17 year old all black domestic shorthair with some Siamese or Burmese blood in him as he has the somewhat pointy head, big ears and "The Voice." He's the Senior Partner, and the one in charge when I'm out of the house. He has green eyes, although his eyesight is none too good.
Francesca, a brown classic tabby domestic short-hair female with golden eyes, who is under two years old. I adopted her from the Humane Society about a year ago, and a month after adopting her, I discovered she was pregnant. She had to have a caesarean section to deliver her single living kitten. (She actually had a potential litter of three, but only one survived.) She is so beautiful that I simply had to have her, which illustrates the dangers of falling for a pretty face. =o)
Nina, Francesca's kitten is a brown tabby like mommy, but with a white face, white bib and tummy and white paws. She too is irresistably beautiful, but is a part time hoolikitten. Poor Panther has to go to elaborate lengths to get some peace and quiet for his naps around here.

Welcome to the group. I only have 1 cat - Rusty, who is 11 years old. When I lost my job, I also told him to stay healthy. But he didn't listen, and I lost track of how much I spent at the vet since then. Right now he is fine and I hope he stays that way.

A few years ago Little Bit decided to move in and have her litter in my closet. I had plans for finding them homes since I already had a pair of cockatiels, and wasn't sure how they'd get along. Turned out there was no problem so when the time came LB and her daughter Sammy stayed. Recently Spotty, a momma cat who recently moved her litter onto my patio. Again, after finding homes for the kittens I was left with Spotty. We're still working on integrating her into the family - she's a sweetheart, but there are still issues with the other girls, especially Little Bit. Oh well, I'm pretty sure they'll work things out, there has been lots of progress already and I have high hopes they'll be getting along fine soon.
