Cats & String

Along with boxes and paper bags, cats adore string.  I was digging around in
a junk drawer and found a very long heavy (like a shoelace) string, about 6
feet long.  Lord knows why I have it but have it I do.  So I wrapped it
around the doorknob of Persia's favourite closet with the ends dangling.
Didn't take her long to discover it!

First she sat and batted at it.  Then she flopped down on her side and
attacked it with both front paws.  Being a string, it of course resisted her
attempts to subdue it by waving wildly about.  This only renewed her
perseverance!  She was going to subdue this string, regardless!  She tried
using the bunny-kick method, all four paws, to capture the nefarious string.
She finally managed to grab one end of it and get it in her mouth.  Then she
tugged until it came off the doorknob.  Conquest complete, she dragged the
string into the other room to kill it properly :)  This involved some
rolling and more bunny-kicking.

Mean mommy that I am, I took it away from her before she could get all
wrapped up in it and strangle herself.  It's back on the doorknob waiting
patiently for her next attack.

Jill <--who will always supervise string-play but gosh I wish I had a video
camera!

*lol* love it!

Mine never seem to do anything funny while I have the video camera in
hand; they do plenty, though, right after I put it away!!!!!

Tell me about it!

I took a potato sack (the webbing material kind) and threaded a shoetring
through the top to make a mesh-like bag to keep our camping dishes in.
Great for storing, carring, and you can hang it on a portable clothesline to
dry your dishes.  I took another shoestring and made a cloth pouch for the
utinsils from one of the 'micro-fiber' cleaning cloths you can buy - great
for storing the utinsils, but can also be used as a 'washcloth' or dishrag
if need be.  When we returned from our latest camping trip, all the dishes &
utinsils were run through the dishwasher.  The pouch was washed with some
other clothes.  The shoestring from the pouch was tucked inside the potato
sack until everyting was cleaned and ready to be re-stored.  They disapeared
the other night, from where I had put them, on top of the cannisters on the
kitchen counter.  I found the potato sack in the dining room, in a corner,
with the shoestring draw-cord partially removed from it.  The other
shoestring was missing from it.  I found that on the back porch, properly
killed by who knows which of the *8* LOL

<G> Kims favourite toy is  string and a feather. All the toys from
the pet shop tend to be ignored .

Mischief - 14 Jul 2005 22:02 GMT
Mischief just LOVES string.  Whenever I'm sewing or cross stiching, she
is right there looking wide-eyed at the string, waiting to pounce.
Also she loves black shoelaces.  She will pounce and try to kill it
with all her might.

A few years ago, my roommate and her family got me a cat tree for Imp
and Mischief.  When I walked in and saw it, there were two long black
shoelaces tied to it.

Now whenever Mischief jumps to the top of her tower and peeks up over
the side, she's telling me that she wants me to toss the other end of
the shoelace so she can pounce on it.  It's her favorite game.
