For the past three years--ever since we brought Smokey in from the
forests of CFB Trenton--Smokey's favourite thing to eat has been "food"
And his favourite kind of food has been "lots."

It has taken these three years for Smokey to realize that food
appearing in his bowl daily isn't a miracle, it's How Things Are (And
How Things Will Be For The Rest Of His Life.)

Smokey charges a "Sandwich tax" and demands a bite of every sandwich,
or else he sings. he ate a lot of garbage when he was feral and he sees
sandwiches and pizza as Cat Food.  (whereas a chicken leg or roast of
beef is For People Only Or Else You Have To Go Outside Forever.)

Lately, we've noticed that he's actually showing a preference.  Ham.
If you've got a ham sandwich, he'll bug for more than his usual
one-bite tax, whereas if you've got turkey, chicken, veggieburger,
hamburger...he's happy with just his usual taste.

OMG, he's getting finicky, and finally turning into a proper cat.

Aw!  I love hearing about Smokey.  I'm so glad he's finally becoming secure
in his home and in your love for him.

Glad to hear he's slowing down and actually picking a favorite food
instead of just "lots"

I think Spotty has just about decided the food bowl isn't going to
stay empty forever every time she can see the bottom of the bowl. Now
she'll even walk away from the gushy food before she eats everything
off all three plates I put down - and doesn't guard the food the the
others. It was kind of sad to watch her clean one plate, dash into the
other room and clean the other plates, because she wasn't sure when
there'd be more food available.
