Purrs for Peaches

I've never seen her like this.  I uncovered her cage and she was all hunched
over and totally fluffed up like a bird does when it is sick.  She blinked
at me but didn't really respond much.  Birds are like cats in that they hide
illness well.

I have some Ornacycline (bird antibiotic, like amoxicillan to us humans) so
I dissolved a tablet in water and got her out of the cage.  She bit the crap
out of me and escaped my hand (it's funny to watch a small parrot who
doesn't know how to fly run across the carpet).  I scooped her up (she
resigned and gave in without biting) and gave her a teeny bird-dropper full
of the ornacycline (which she drank like it was water).  Put her back in the
cage.  It's only been 30 minutes but I think she's feeling better.  She's
standing up straight and has started pulling at her toys and chirping a bit.

Her avian vet is open so if I have to I can rush her over there.  Hopefully
I won't have to.  No idea what might have caused her to be looking and
feeling so punky.  The only thing I can think is I bought her an apple
yesterday.  I washed it off well before cutting a slice for her but maybe
she ingested a small amount of some pesticide?  I threw the rest of the
apple away.  I'll keep an eye on her for the next couple of hours and rush
her to the vet if necessary.  Bird purrs requested.

Cornish purrs en route. I'm sure they've not been diluted by a certain
licking of lips from the furry fraternity.

Poor Peaches.  Birdie purrs and chirps are on the way.  Petie Parakeet
is sending his best feel better chirps to Peaches.

Prrrrrrrr!!!

I hope  the medicine did the trick for Peaches, Jill. Since she perked up
that soon after you gave it to her, I'd say that was a good hunch.

Birdy purrs on the way (and Tiger will add some cockatiel chirps). I
remember several years ago Sunny (RB), my first cockatiel, got a cold
and I was convinced she was at death's door. One good thing about
birds is that, although they developed symptoms right before your
eyes, they also get well very quickly.
