I have never been so grateful to have insomnia in my life. I woke up and
couldn't get back to sleep so I came out to the computer. I kept
hearing a cat meowing so I opened the front door and it got louder. I
put on some clothes and went out the front door where I did the minimal
coaxing and what should appear but MY Stripey Thing. Who ran his butt
right in the door. I shudder to think what would have happened if he
had been out there all night. I think he just started making a ruckus
when the lights in the apartment came on - he knows which one is his.
This has never happened to me before. My cats have never slipped out
unnoticed - criminy, they just don't slip out. They stay in even if the
door is open.
Stripey Thing is a bit dirty from climbing under cars, but not all that
bad in terms of wear and tear. He is awfully glad to see me and wishes
that Tony would quit hissing at him. I think I will get out the catnip
and see if I can't calm down the cats at least. I think I am going to
be a little upset for a bit.

Thank goodness Stripey Thing stayed nearby and came right back in.
Maybe this will cure him of wanting to explore in the Out for a while. I
hope so!

Whew! Close call! I'm glad he came right back in and everything's
ok.
That is my worst nightmare when we go out. I always go over and over
in my head where Vino was when we left.

Oh Bridget, thank [deity] he is OK, that must have given you quite a fright!
We have three that you couldn't *force* outside with a boot up their butt.
But Jessie, maybe because she spent her first 6 months scrounging for a
living outside, likes to run outside every chance she gets. We have to be
especially careful when the grandkids come to visit because they don't shut
the doors all the way! We've always been lucky that, even when she was gone
for most of the day, she comes back and hangs on the window screen until we
come back from searching for her to find her trying to get back in. It is a
*VERY* scary feeling to have your indoor cat be out. Purrs coming to calm
your nerves.
Hugs,

Glad to hear he's back where he belongs. Don't you jut hate it when
those who usually are content to be inside decide to sneak out.
It used to be that I only had to watch Sammy when I opened the door.
Since Spotty has been here, LB has darted out a couple times, and
she's never really been interested in being in the OUT enough to do
that since she moved in univited. The first time she got out I did'nt
notice until I filled the food bowls, always the first thing I do when
I get in from work. I looked all over the apartment for her before
checking outside, and there she was lounging in a lawn chair with a
smug look on her face.

I am glad Stripey Thing is OK.
One time Rusty slipped out without my knowing when I opened the
door to pick up the morning paper. While I was reading it, I heard
a cat's meow but couldn't find Rusty. Finally I opened the door and
he was right outside by the door meowing to be let back in.
Some days he waited for me to go outside to dump his litter box
offerings and darted out. Or he waited for me to come back in to
rush outside. Good thing I live in a highrise and the 'out' for him is
just the hallway and he can't go too far.

Hopefully the experiece made him realize that the "out" is not a good
thing. Calming purrs to you and your kittys.
