Sammy's Not Talking to Me!

She won't even look at me, much less come let me pet on her!  She has spent
half the day hiding under the couch.

I was an evil meowmie.  I betrayed her!  I took her to.....

*TED*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't believe it was Sammy sitting on that table.  My widdle love-bug was
*growling* and *hissing*!!!!  I had never heard her do that before.  The vet
took one look at this 15-pound "kitten" and was *very* wary of handling
her - LOL!

She and Jessie are both fine, they got their vaccs and got a "perfect" on
their score cards.  Except the found a little flea dirt on Sammy so I have
to order some Revolution.

I heard you can get the "large dog" dosage at petmeds.com the cheapest (I'll
have to do all four cats, naturally) - does anyone know the dosage to use on
adult cats?

Aw, poor Sammy.  Poor TED! ;)  I actually wish that Stinky would show
a little spirit around TED-- It's getting him into the carrier and to
the office that's the epic battle.

Once he's on the TED table, he goes so completely "Gandhi" on me,  I
think that upsets me more than if he was all hisspits and pointy bits.
;)  What a great little psych-ops practitioner he is. ;)

Last winter when Pan had to go to the vet each week for bandage changes,
they LOVED his Pancake Puss "don't hurt me!" attitude. =o) Dr. McKenzie told
me that there were some cats that had to be at least partially sedated
before anything could be done for them, they put on such a "tough guy act."

Poor Sammy! I'm sure she'll forgive you before long, CatNipped.

Sugar and Grant are/were so much easier to treat because they "go Ghandi" at
the vet. It's much, much tougher to have things done on Pearl and way more
stressful. Going Ghandi is a good thing in most ways.

Oh, yes, of course, I'm really grateful he doesn't get feisty with the
vet!  It's just so weird to see him that way.  It's so different from
the way he always is.

I'm so glad to hear Sammy and Jessie are ok. Sorry I can't help with the
right Revolution dosage.
Best wishes,

We never knew Smokey had a hiss until his last vet visit...
Fortunately, Smokey still considers anyone with food his best friend,
so a couple treats was all it took.

Naughty Sammy, behaving so shamefully!

It's nice to hear that they are fine. On my sweet little Mandy's first
visit, when she was only a tiny ball of fluff, she had to be taken into a
back room to have blood drawn. She screamed and yowled and struggled so
much the battle could be clearly heard in the waiting room, causing
everyone to look at each other speculatively, wondering what kind of
animal was back there and who owned it. Even I thought they must surely
have something else there besides Mandy - maybe a very loud parrot - but I
asked when they returned her, and they said, no, all the noise and
commotion was caused by Mandy. She's continued in much the same vein,
although fortunately, she doesn't normally have blood tests, and
vaccincations and examinations are less traumatic for all concerned.

Some years, though, she's had sort of long-distance examinations - the vet
stands back against the wall, and says 'she looks healthy'. Even the
cats-only vet who has retired sometimes had to refrain from examining bits
of her 'because of temperament', although she always got some bits
examined. Mandy's temperament is perfectly fine, as long as everything
goes her way. Then...look out!

That sounds like a Mandy to me....

I've told this one a couple times... but what's once more.

Back when I took Rocky (RB) for his snip job he was the terror of the
clinic. When I went to pick him up, a tech went back to get him and
everyone in the place heard him. A second tech went back to help, and
if anything  the yowling grew louder. The whole time the yowling was
going on I was in the front reading the posters on the wall and trying
to pretend I didn't know what was going on ;-) Finally the supervisor
went back and between the three of them he was put in the carrier.

a couple notes here: First, this was a non-profit neutering clinic, so
I suspect the first two who tried to cage him may well have been
volunteers and not have been experienced with handling a BIG ex-feral
who DID NOT what them near him. Also, in Rocky's defense, it should be
noted that he spent two nights and a full day there, refusing to eat,
drink or use the litterbox the whole time - so he was extra cranky.
Still, the first time I took him to see a vet, because of an abcessed
fight wound, he was still semi-feral and very leary of people. I may
have been the only hoomin who had ever handled him, and that was
pretty minimal handling at that point. The staff at my regular TED
wanted nothing to do with him. I held him wrapped in a towel while the
vet looked at the wound, without actually trying to touch him, and
gave him an antibiotic shot. Even later on, he terroized the staff
unless I was in the room - except of course for that last visit when
he had been injured and hurt too much and was partially paralyzed.

I'm glad you retold the story, Steve, I miss hearing about Rocky.  One of
the things we need to do here is keep those kitties who've gone to the RB
alive in all our memories.

You're right, and I think it helps the grieving process to tell these
stories. In fact, you've inspired to go back and re-edit "Rocky's
Story" that I posted last September, and I'll post that.

Years ago  the first time the vet tried to draw blood from Rusty, he
struggled so much with two persons holding him down that the vet
gave up. Said Rusty couldn't be that sick if he could fight like that.
Good thing the last two times when blood tests were needed, he
was able to draw blood. I was always there in the room and once
had to raise my voice  to tell Rusty to quiet down.
