One of my kitties, Buck, will occasionally display some heat-like
behaviour (yowling, rolling around, "presenting", generally being
unbearable), even though she's spayed. I asked about this here once
before, and suggestions included checking her UT health and a getting a
blood test for hormones that might indicate an incomplete spay.
The urine test came back fine, no indication of any UT problems.
The blood test also indicated an insignificant progesterone level, and
the local clinic (best option within a two-hour drive) is just taking a
"wait-and-see" attitude, which is about right, I suppose, since Buck
isn't currently acting up. Still, I'm not sure I fully trust these
guys, since they don't have the greatest reputation for being
knowledgable, so I thought I might ask here again. I guess my main
question is about the progesterone test. The blood was taken two weeks
after her behaviour started, at the vet's direction. Does that sound
right? Should it matter that her behaviour stopped 3 or 4 days before
the blood was taken?
Any ideas what else could be going on?
I sure appreciate any advice anyone might have.
thanks much,
Jeff

I am not a vet but it seems to me the tests should be done while the
behavior is still being exhibited, not 2 weeks afterwards. Maybe you should
try another vet when she's showing these signs of false heat and see what
he/she says.
